This is making it extremely difficult to speak/learn Spanish. Is it genetic- believe me I've practiced! Wierd...should I switch to learning Italian?

Ever wonder why every single human being in this planet doe's speak just on single language langue idioma ....???
Why and how did we started to speak a different language in the first place ? even when I can clearly see some similarity between french english spanish italian or portugeese how did it all started to become so distinct and unique from different country???
