MADDYYY : here's the correct spelling : mijn vriend betaalt

I'm Dutch, so I know some Dutch words and phrases...

But it is difficult to choose :
what kind of phrases/words exactly would you like?

Tell me, and I'll tell you.

OK, for starters : some (more or less) typically Dutch things :

tulp : tulip
bloem : flower
kaas : cheese

haring : herring
(and yes : we eat this fish raw!,
but...with some shredded onion on it)

molen : mill
wind : wind (yes, the same)
water : water (idem)
idem : idem (idem) / ditto
regen : rain
klompen : wooden shoes
dijk : dike/dyke/bank
gracht : canal
Mokum : nickname for Amsterdam

Mokumers : nickname for 'Amsterdammers',
(the citizens of Amsterdam)

jenever : (Dutch) gin, Holland / Schiedam gin, geneva, Hollands

fiets : bike

oliebol : ± donut ball

appelflap : apple turnover

and, for now last, but not least :

koningin : queen, but she's not a thing of course

They're very proud of the word "gezellig" (make sure you get the g's right)...it refers to the pleasant feeling you have when, say, you're having a nice time with friends over food and wine on a terrace on a warm summer night...or a picnic in the park...etc.
