a poor translation (or on-line translation) of "How do you do today?" but doesn't make much sense in Spanish.

Hope that helps ;)

This is not commonly used but it means

How are you today?

Usted is used when you want to be formal...you would use it with adults/elders and usualy aquintances.

literally How do you make today? (hehehe)

I myself - as others around me - tend to use:

¿Como esta usted?

actualy now that I think about it this is a wheather term that is not commonly used.....¿como hace hoy?....hmmm I think the native speaker - rather than my highschool text - is right on this one.
- which translates how are you? (in the moment - therefore the verb estar)

I'm Spanish and it means NOTHING--- someone is saying something, through a literal English-Spanish translation and the result?? A bunch of random Spanish words, with no meaning.

Nothing.

That's nonsense.

Ps: Rainbow, yes, native speakers usually know their language better than foreign highschool texts or the mighty babelfish on-line translator XDD. And by the way, I'm from Spain.

I know several puerto ricans that use it frequently as a statement (not a question). I get the impression the direct translation would be "...like you do" (used in the US in the early 2000s) or perhaps "that's how it goes" - sort of an affirmation of what's going on, or a head nod. From context, that's what I've picked up on. I've asked directly, and they aren't able to translate it figuratively.

Literally: How are you doing today?
In some contexts it could mean "What are you doing today?"
