I studied sign language for a few years, but don't ask me to translate something if someone is signing something. My son is taking it as a "foreign" language in high school and we have a very close friend who is profoundly hard of hearing and used to work with the deaf.
It is a beautiful language and a lot of the signs, once you know the origin of the sign, you will never forget it. (i.e. the sign for bored is picking your nose because that what little kids tend to do when they are bored. The sign for baby is like cradling a baby in your arms. ). If you are interested in learning, there are many good books available, check out your local library or bookstore.

I wish I knew more. I only know how to do my name in sign language.
