It seems like everywhere that promotes bilingualism says it is necessary since so much of their population is Hispanic. One step none of them take is to refer to the same national study put out by the Federal government which says of the hispanic community, 57% speak English only, 18% speak Spanish and English and only 25% of these immigrants only speak Spanish. So we are not focused on supporting and aiding the immigrants! If your area is 57% immigrants, then you are only promoting 18% of them, or roughly 10% of your population. For 10% you are making the rest learn spanish to be competative in the workplace, paying for two signs of all Englsih language postings, and now fooling retailers to put up money for English and Spanish commercials.
What do the Yahoo people think of all this??

I am looking for names that do NOT have any suffixes like: deep, preet, inder, pal and do NOT have any prefix like har. I'm looking for something original that sounds good in English as well as in Punjabi. I've always hated people mispronouncing my name but I soon got tired of always correcting people.

I, sometimes, have to guess how to pronouce some words in English (my second language). I do not know if I have to, e.g. say:

"blink" with the "i" sound as in i of "will" or as in i in "wild" (and in many other alike exemples)

or

with "a": rapel is with "day" sound or with "apple" sound?

How can I know? Is there a way for avoinding this kind of mistakes?

Tnx!

I've always wanted to learn all the languages except Latin. I get enough Latin in certain songs that I sing. I could learn Italian on my own or from my friend in Wyoming, but she hasn't been feeling well. Please help me out.

My name is Jessica, For those of you who don' know me :)
I guess I'll start off by telling you a bit about my situation,
About 3 months ago, A spanish speaking family of 7 moved into my apartment complex, And they live right below me... Well they have 2 little daughters who's names are Samantha & Cynthia. Samantha is 7, and Cynthia is 5. I met these two young girls one day, And I soon became very fond of them, I learned that their dad and the two young girls are the only 3 people in their house that speak English, Samantha and Cynthia have 3 cousins that live with them, So it's the two young girls, their mom & dad, as well as 3 cousins. Over these past 3 months, I have become VERY fond of one of her cousins named Pablo ( Paul ) And He has become very fond of me as well, I have been studying Spanish with this family since the day I met them, And I am learning very quickly.... But I feel like I have really fallen for this guy Pablo...
