There are no real rules in English to help you remember how to say words like this - it's really just repetition, unfortunately. I honestly don't know how anyone learning English can remember all the rules! Learning a European language is much, much easier! I think if you listen to English language programs or tapes, that would be the best and only way to learn.

sorry. English is a mixture of most all languages, so no rules get you very far. (we don't have rules, we just make it up as we go along) There are a bunch of general rules, like silent e on the end makes long vowel sound, and double consonants usually separate two syllables, but even then there are so many exceptions that it is a mess. That is why English is among the more difficult languages to learn.

English doesn't have as many rigid phonetic rules as other languages. If you don't know how to pronounce something, use a dictionary's phonetic symbols.
I can remember learning to read English as a child and we spent a lot of time learning letter pairs we called "pals." These helped us know which letter combinations made certain sounds.
As with any foreign language, the best way to learn is through practice. If it's hard to find people to speak English with you, you can watch the news (cnn.com, bbc.co.uk) or listen to the radio over the internet to get more exposure to the language.
Good Luck!

There are three things to consider to improve your understanding and skills of your language, English in particular: 1. Listen attentively to native speakers of English. This includes real people around you as much as radio and television broadcasts of news and features, cinema, theatres, etc. 2. Read well, especially newspapers and magazines of quality, in addition to your regular or leisure studies. 3. Consult a standard pronouncing dictionary that lists words and spells them out in an understandable system with their corresponding meanings. For your own benefit, acquaint yourself with the International Phonetic Alphabet. Practise everything many times till you have mastered it. Make this a habit whenever you hit upon a new word.

many rules in the English language haves rules that will not apply. The best way to avoid these mistakes is to practice with people who will not judge you.

i DONT THINK ITS SOMETHING YOU CAN LEARN...
IT JUST COMES WITH REPITION AND MEMORIZATION.
MY FIVE YEAR OLS IS LEARNING TO READ AND HE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS...
K AND C MAKE THE SAME SOUNDS, AND I JUST TELL HIM ONE DAY HELL REMEMBER WHICH ONE TO USE...
