I have a German friend who speaks fluent English, but she'll say things like "surwive" (survive), even though the German language clearly has a 'v' sound, and she can pronounce it sometimes.

I've noticed this among other Germans too. "Inwariable", etc.

Are Germans taught that English speakers sometimes pronounce "v" like "w"? These are educated people, so I have no idea why they do this.

I have some Japanese friends at college, and have noticed that they mix up "r's" and "L's" quite frequently. i was wondering if anybody out there understands why that is.

Please no racists jokes, serious answers only.

I would appreciate any Gaelic scholars out there who could help me out with this translation as it is of personal importance to myself. I am a Tipperary man, so I'd appreciate a favor from a fellow Irish person

Quick question. I've seen both shinbun and shimbun. Which is the correct way? I don't think it's a mistake, because I've read a book or two that sort of explains which one is correct. Sort of. Thanks.
