It's not just asians but i've seen many asians having one of those electronic translators. My question is, people have learned and survived even when those things didn't exist. You just need to study a bit and then you can ask , make questions if you don't understand something. Even make drawings or diagrams to get the point across. Being dependant on a little gadget is weird. I'm studying Japanese too, and if I went to Japan i wouldn't buy one of those ever. I would ask or figure it out little by little. I don't know, but i feel these Asians who often carry one of these translators are not going to learn much if they rely on those things.

Because some sites i've seen translate to arabic language and im like this is bull and just close browser.

I dont care if the arabic typing comes out or not, i just want to see how to say it in english text thank you.

I accept that "focused" is preferred in the US, but is there a preferred spelling in the UK? Please support your answer with authority (online preferred).

When you live in usa and it's really hard to knnow words that PEOPLE in japan use and are not very easy to find with study materials here in the usa. Example is that i watch Fuji terebi news, and i can't catch many things cause they use words i can't find anywhere in dictionaries and stuff.

I have been learning Spanish in school now for about five years, and I am no where near fluent, but my Spanish class is conducted entirely in Spanish and we always have to talk in Spanish in class, and I am (for about 90% of the time) able to understand and communicate. I am nervous though because in about 5 months I am going to live in the Dominican Republic for a month with a family, and they will not speak English, and I'm really nervous that I'm not going to understand them and that they will think that I'm some stupid kid who doesn't take learning Spanish seriously (which I do). Does anyone have any tips that could help me get over my fear?

Please translate "Must be checked".

Background: This is an error message for a checkbox on an online form (it is saying that the checkbox field must be checked for the user to continue).

These two languages are so alike. However, spanish-speaking people say they can't understand portuguese. is this true?

I live in Canada and have never heard this term before, I find it kind of funny. (no offence) I was just wondering what it all means and how accurate it is, where it came from and why it's not globally used in the English language.
