You can use either. The Concise Oxford Dictionary gives both versions. I am a South African and because we had been steeped in British English as a result of our country having been a colony of Britain at some stage, we commonly use the one with double "s". However your question prompted me to check my hard copy and I found that either of the two can be used. I tried to find on-line dictionary to support this to no avail.
How about you typing either version on word and change your language preference to English (UK) and then spell check!

RE:
Which is the preferred British spelling: focused or focussed?
I accept that "focused" is preferred in the US, but is there a preferred spelling in the UK? Please support your answer with authority (online preferred).

It s always been focused as far as I am concerned. I think the American version would probably be focussed.

In America, our proper spelling is "focused." In Britain they frequently spell it "focussed." Both are correct and in the dictionary.

I lived in England for a few years and I tried to get those bloody Brits to see reason. Focused makes more sense, but they insist on being difficult and continue to favor focussed.
