It means "Hi! How are you (girl)friend!" girlfriend as in a female friend. Mija is a contraction of Mi Hija, which is used as a term of endearment between close friends.
Hey Martha P, where are from? Don't you use mija as a term of endearment there? It's quite common here

Mija does come from Mi Hija, and although it is a term of endearment, I never use it with my friends. You would use it with someone who is younger than you, but it is not equivalent to "girl".

hola cómo estás mija (mi hija) = Hello, how are you my child?
hija = daughter
but I think in this case you don´t mean that.
Hija is used between friends meaning something like hello girl;
but with the "mi" in front is normally used by older person when talking to a younger person (female).
