When you live in usa and it's really hard to knnow words that PEOPLE in japan use and are not very easy to find with study materials here in the usa. Example is that i watch Fuji terebi news, and i can't catch many things cause they use words i can't find anywhere in dictionaries and stuff.

If you know the general subjects that they are discussing, then you simply need to do some vocabulary study using words that you would typically find.

For example, if you are watching weather, you may want to study words like overcast, snow, sleet, sunny, directions (north, south), etc.

For general news, there is a lot that could be discussed, but you can learn words related to natural disasters, politics, etc.

Once you begin learning words, it's much easier to figure out the words that you don't know.

It's good that you didn't say you were learning from anime! There is so much slang and the language is quite rude. Learning from the news will give you a much more realistic basis.
