Just a question to see what works for most. When something depressing happens or tragic. Like a lovers quarrel, or a break-up, what do you do to get over it? Do you find it harder to turn the page and why? Or Do you dwell for a while, and then get over it? Curious?

My sister-in-law's grandmother, who lives in Japan, recently sent some very nice gifts to our family. In a previous Yahoo! Answers question, I learned that it would be appropriate to send her a gift as a thank-you. What do you think an elderly Japanese woman would like to receive as a gift from the United States?

I'm asking this in "Languages" in hopes that some Japanese people will see this question.

I've been taking arabic, one of the hardest langugaes an english speaking person can learn, for about a year now and i'm able to communicate in daily life and read semi-alright. Spanish is a very easy langugae to learn, in fact it is probably the easiest langugae you can learn. What i don't get is how someone can take it for nine years, which i just heard someone say, and still not learn the whole thing? Is that person dumb or is it really that hard for some people?

Some angry drunk just called me something or other that sounded like "malaka pushti" or whatever and then shouted "skita" at me. I have no idea how those are spelled in whatever language it's supposed to be - I'm guessing it might be Polish, since he is of Polish descent. I'm guessing they aren't very nice.

Angustam amice pauperiem pati
Robustus acri militia puer
Condiscat et Parthos ferocis
Vexet eques metuendus hasta,

Vitamque sub divo et trepidis agat
In rebus. Illum ex moenibus hosticis
Matrona bellantis tyranni
Prospiciens et adulta virgo

Suspiret, eheu, ne rudis agminum
Sponsus lacessat regius asperum
Tactu leonem, quem cruenta
Per medias rapit ira caedes.

Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori:
Mors et fugacem persequitur virum,
Nec parcit imbellis iuventae
Poplitibus timidoque tergo.

Virtus repulsae nescia sordidae,
Intaminatis fulget honoribus,
Nec sumit aut ponit securis
Arbitrio popularis aurae.

Virtus recludens immeritis mori
Caelum negata temptat iter via,
Coetusque volgaris et udam
Spernit humum fugiente penna.

Est et fideli tuta silentio
Merces: vetabo qui Cereris sacrum
Volgarit arcanae sub isdem
Sit trabibus fragilemve mecum

Solvat phaselon, saepe Diespiter
Neglectus incesto addidit integrum:
Raro antecedentem scelestum
Deseruit pede Poena claudo.
