Everyone knows what 12 o'clock means in terms of what time it is. But where did the "o'clock" piece come from? Is it Irish? :)

I find this quite odd. Why do people from the USA just call themselves americans, while people from other countries are americans too? I'm Colombian and that makes me just as american as anyone born in the States. Does anyone have a good answer in why do you call yourselves americans?

Don't tell me that you are because you were born in America. The USA is just a part of America. Canadians, Mexicans, Colombians, Argentinians are all americans.

Spanish is the only language that has a correct name for those who were born in the States: "Estadounidense" Sounds long and nasty, but its correct.

I'm not giving people from the USA a lecture, I just think that you're more than americans. You're from the United States.

So many people in other countries can speak English really well. I know that English is effectively the 'international language' and that's why so many learn it, but do you think we should still make more of an effort to learn say, French or Spanish or something? Or do you think it's a waste of time?

I'm not just talking about learning Bonjour and Adios in school, I mean learning it so you can actually use it.

Hi, I would really like to learn Japanese and Spanish. I was wondering which one it would be better to learn first. I don't want to get them confused or slow my progress in either one, but I'm also impatient and want to study them both. How long do you think it would take to learn enough of Japanese or Spanish that I could begin studying the other without getting too slowed down? Thank you!

I mean really, doesn't the word itself mean that you believe in an ideal world? No matter what the actual ideal you believe in, thats up to interpretation. However, I seem to hear it a lot. Just curious as to why the word itself can be used negatively. Opinions?
