Were they derived from other ancient languages, or were they just completely made up (if they were derived from other ancient languages, then how were they made up)? The German word for cat is katze. Why katze, when it could have been something like poopalalaleela for instance?

Why does an English word have like 3 Japanese meanings? For example, the word "angel" in 3 Japanese words means "mitsukai", "tennotsukai", & "enzeru". I really want to know. My friend even said that "shut up" means "uruse".. something like that? And has another Japanese meaning.

Should English be treated as a tool for progress, rather than a foreign language?? Because with each passing day it is gaining more and more acceptence across the world, as a common mode of expression rather than being recognized as one country or nation's language!

My grandfather has two chinese names. He used to receive letters under both names. Is it a taiwanese name and a chinese name? They sound nothing alike, so its not mandarin and cantonese.

I have a German class tomorrow at 9:30... first of all I don't wanna wake up that early 'cause I'm a lazy jerk...

But I was wondering if anyone else has taken the language and thought it was fairly easy to learn. Apparently my teacher sucks, we'll see.

But what's your opinion? German, easy to learn? (Is it fun too?)

Hi. I have a question.Folloing is an article that I found.

Dear Annie: My 80-something neighbor, "Addie," is being kept in her home and out of a nursing facility by me. She`s tough but sweet. A lot of neighbors used to take turns helping out, but have dropped off.

If her children would split the work, it wouldn`t be too difficult. Addie needs help with cleaning, yardwork, shopping, cooking nutritious meals, minor home maintenance and trips to the doctor. So how do I get her relatives to take over? She`s very particular, but she`s spunky. -- Worn-Out Woman

On the bottome line, it says "she's very particular, but she's spunky"
I looked up a dictionary to find out the definition of spunky. Its synonyms
are bold, brave, strong and irritable. Let's say she's very particualr, but she's brave. But it sounds weired to me. Could you hlep me out?
