What if we write the word as "Behsheed". The name is truly pronounced as Beh-Keep.

Yes of course. There's always this possiblity as long as there are stupid people in the world. Kids are even better than adults on this issue. I've seen many adults who make fun of names.

Now, who knows what their name sounds like in another language.

If you are truly sold on that name, then you might keep it as a middle name, but I would strongly recommend that you find something else to use for a first name. It just doesn't look right - it looks like it should have a T at the end, and it will probably at times be pronounced as if it does. Even your alternate spelling doesn't completely remove the inclination to pronounce the T sound, although it is definitely better than the first spelling. But I would not use that name for my child; children are just too cruel.

I'm going to be perfectly honest, when I read your question the first time, that is what I first read it as, I had to read it again before I saw that it was a 'd' at the end. The true pronounciation is very pretty though. I think the second spelling will be less likely to cause trouble but kids can be cruel... I think a good rule of thumb is that if you question it yourself, it is a bad idea.

I'd go with an alternate spelling, if I were you! Kids will be mean no matter what, but you don't have to push that process along, you know?

Since it's pronounced without that "sh" sound, I think he'd be just fine with just a slight change in spelling.

Then why don't you spell his name phontetically Behs-kiipd - the worst will be that they'll call him bays skipped. No matter what, the kids will probably call him Ben Gay anyways!

If you thought of it so will a bully! The first thing I thought of was Bigshit. Unless you want him to come home crying every day, I would find another name.

I'd go with the second spelling, unless you can think of a way to spell it phonetically. Even then, children seem to be able to find a way to make fun of anything. ; )

Best wishes for your child!

The first thing that comes to my mind that nasty little punks would use to tease would be "Be Shi*t"

And Bed Sheet, Bee keeper.
