Holidays - November 2006

i mean doesnt it seem silly to anyone else? i would think you celibrate thanksgiving THEN you start on christmas. it seems logical to me. any suggestions why?

Whilst walking down the high street today, I entered several shops, all playing those nauseating christmas compilation cd's (Slade, Wizzard etc etc you know the drill!) and I think I went in 7 different shops and heard the same tune consecutively!!!!!

But it's the middle of november, its not christmas, what the hell's going on there? It's getting earlier every year for gods sake!!!

i know christmas and easter are originally christian holidays, but how /when/why did santa take over xmas? how /when/why did the easter bunny take over easter?

i can kind of understand santa...be good, family, sharing gifts.....birth of jesus...i can KINDA see a connection there....
but easter is like...HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?? what does jesus coming back to life have to do with ANYTHING to do with the easter bunny and painted eggs????

did these loved holiday characters come into our lives through media?

btw...please dont give me an answer with bible passages and saying stuff like "because the devil tricks us". supernatural answers arent going to tell me ANYTHING! i just want to know the history behind santa and the easter bunny.

My sister-in-law loves Nicholas Sparks and Mitch Albom books. I thought about getting her either a few Sparks books or a Mitch Albom book (The Five People You'll Meet In Heaven) and the movie that co-insides with it.

Are books still an ok thing to give? because i thought about doing that with a few of my family members. Give them a book of their favorite author and such.

I had read of giving three gifts representing the three gifts that the Wiseman had brought, using the first letter of each gift. G in gold = ? F in frankincense = ? and M in myrrh = money.
