Is it because the Americans wanted to thank the Indians for welcoming them or they wanted to thank God after a good harvest ?

The pilgrims of the 1620's were deeply religious and felt that a feast to recognize their harvest was appropriate, since it meant they wouldn't starve like many of their predecessors. The natives were enormously helpful, having "taught" them to plant and harvest maize (corn). Inviting them to the feast was more a means of placating, though, than celebrating. Pilgrim/Algonquin relations were never very good. The natives thought the pilgrims were utterly bizarre and foul-smelling, and kept their distance.
