Over the years, have given a variety of things for kid's teachers. Most of the time tree ornaments I have made myself.
As a teacher, can I answer as well?
Gifts are not really required, they are nice, though. I still treasure tree ornaments I have gotten from students. I am sentimental, so I love the "Best Teacher" ones! I really like it when it was the student who was picking the gift - so a boy would say "I know your favourite colour is purple, so I knew you would like this purple _________".
An important thing, too, is don't spend a lot of money - really. Something from the dollar store is just as wonderful as a silk scarf. I was known for wearing funky earrings, pins and socks, so I appreciated getting cute and different ones.
Don't stress about it - sometimes a little box of chocolates is pretty good, too!

As a teacher, I am always just grateful to get any gifts at all. It shows me that the student cares about me and as a math teacher, I don't get that too often :)
From experience, my favorite gifts are the ones that their parents obviously didn't go out and buy in bulk for them to give away, and ones that I can use more than just once, all through the year. Don't get me wrong, chocolates are great, but once they're gone, they're gone. For example, my absolute favorite gift from a student is a pen that he engraved my name on (in his wood shop class). I received it 4 years ago, and I still have it, still use it, still love it, and of course, I remember that student every time I use it.
I've also received gift certificates, lotions, keychains, food/candy, decorations, etc.
I suggest something lasting, but inexpensive. For example....
A magnet, picture frame, pen, paper weight, etc to put on their desk.
Something like a poster, picture, calendar, etc to put up on the wall.
A seasonal decoration they can pull out every year.
And of course don't forget a personal card. That's the most important part. I've kept many cards from students. It's what made everything worthwhile, and it's why I feel teaching is the most rewarding profession out there. Because from what was said to me in those cards, I know I made a difference.

When I was a teacher, I loved getting gift cards (I received one from a local store - WaWa for $10 and it was great, free coffee for 2 weeks).
I was also given a book of stickers that I could in turn use for the class. Really anything that is useful for the classroom is a great gift.
Not the most original gift but coffee mugs work too.
Please, no candles or bath soaps!!!! LOL

Well most teachers like the idea of a plane card. If I were a student I would think about what my teacher talks about the most. If they like cars think about getting them something that has to do with cars. Any normal human being LOVES chocolate. So if you don't know what your teacher likes you cannot go wrong with chocolate!

Get them a small paperweight or something, or one of those little statues you see many of them decorate their desks with. Or take a picture of yourself and put it in a nice frame. You also can't go wrong with stationary or a fancy pen or something. And chocolate and cookies and stuff like that makes good presents too, especially if they're wrapped nicely or put in a small tin.

The best gift any teacher wants, is your strict attention and best behavior. This shows respect for what they are trying to do.
