It is pouring down rain and the streets are bacly flooded where I live. The buses are not running so I will have to walk to work this afternoon. It is only a few blocks and I have an umbrella but I will get splashed many times as I have to walk on the side of a busy flooded street. I cannot afford to stay home and besides there is no one to cover my shift. It is just water and I will survive and dry off eventually as I have to walk home in it too. The store I work at is very picky about what we look like and I will be going in soak and wet with wet shoes and stockings. I dread the stares I will get and want to know how to handle their smart remarks and if my supervisor who is always looking to criticise everything I do says something. What can I say that will get the point across to them that they are being rude and insensitive without getting myself fired or written up. I know I won't look to good to the customers but hey they don't have to walk in the flood.

My inlaws come over a lot to visit and have lunch, etc... and we go over to their place every Sunday after church for lunch. When we're finished eating, my huband, his mom and dad can sit at the kitchen table for hours talking about whatever and I usually get up and sit on the couch, read the paper, cross stich, etc... My husband says it's rude, but most of the time what they're talking about partains to a class that my husband and his mom are teaching or other things that don't really include me not to mention my rump falls asleep sitting on those kitchen chairs! Am I being rude?

For e.g. I answered a question asking what your favourite band is, and I answered Green Day ('cause they are) and got an email, the title of which called me a bi*ch, saying 'GreenDay sucks' over and over again and telling me to get over myself!!

I really can't understand why people feel the need to be like this - I had an email the other day threatening to take a shotgun to my head because I disagreed on someone's position on criminalising abortion (and I was polite about it).

Can you report Answers users for offensive emails, or do you just have to put up with it? It offends me and winds me right up when I get these emails for no reason and I want to do something about it!

Is it true that if you are a man alone in an elevator (in the US), and a woman gets in on a different floor, you're advised to leave the elevator even though you are not at your destination?

The risk of being sued for sexual harrassment would be too high (This is a piece of advice, given by americans as part of a cultural training in Germany)

Her mother and brother rarely attend family functions (her father always attends). They live about 15-20 minutes away from most of the family. We hardly know her, so buying an actual gift is very difficult. Any suggestions?

Giving thought to make regular visits to/fro more palatable, can one introduce this new element without causing raised eyebrows? Persons can then see each other without the morning-noon-night full on treatment. Any tips for a sensitive approach? Or perhaps this isn't something to worry about for it is just a new dynamic to a family get together
