Give me your number, and I'll give you a couple of late night calls. Then tell me how you feel about it.

Morally is the wrong word. It is inconsiderate. Maybe the person is just tired and doesn't appreciate being woken up for a phone call that is about nothing. Maybe they have a hard time getting back to sleep after the phone call. So it's not only inconsiderate, but rude.
Just the fact that you say, "who cares if they are sleeping" shows you care just a little too much about yourself and not enough of what other's may feel. Ever think of that?

Morally unacceptable is probably not the best way to describe the reasons. You do not call someone late at night out of consideration that the time they set aside for sleep and other activities in the evening is limited and most of us like to have some time that is ours without restriction. If you run roughshod over people you know to suit your own convenience and refuse to consider their wants and needs, you will soon run out of people willing to deal with you because you will be seen as inconsiderate and self-centered.

Its not morally unacceptable .....its just straight out rude.

How would you like it if someone, rang you at three am in the morning after you had been at work all day, and then had work really early the next morning and needed to rest so that you can function properly for the next 18 hours.....everyone needs at least 7 hours of unbroken sleep for their brains to sufficiently function....so not only is it rude it is also dangerous and very disrespectful......it shows that you have no regard for that persons well being, work or privacy or personal life.....

Tell you what give me your phone number and i will ring you countless times throughout the night, then tell me the next day how you feel, how would that be for ya?

don't know that it is morally unacceptable. but if your phone rings in the middle of the night, it usually means a disaster is happening. The person who is sleeping cares! In my case, I find sleeping difficult enough and if some prat calls in the night, I find it really difficult to get back to sleep again, and then I want to kill the person who woke me up. which is morally unacceptable....

It's not really morally unaccpetable, but it is disrespectful. By not thinking about the fact that the person is sleeping, you are showing a lack of regard for their personal needs, in this case, sleep. Although you may be awake and energetic late at night, the other person might be needing to get sleep because they need to get up in the morning. Plus it is always harder to get back to sleep after you have been woken up by the phone ringing.

I once got a mild lecture from an IT guy at my office not to call him at home even with an urgent question even as late as 9:30 because "the baby was sleeping." My contention is that there are RARE times when it is correct to call someone at 4 a.m.

No not morally wrong however very acceptable if you are psd and calling your adult children pay back for all the times they rang you in the middle of the nights either for lifts or because they were emotional
Be prepared for the next day phone call from them telling you that you were psd but laughing that's ok

Becuase everyone has their rights and it's rude to call someone late at night when they are sleeping. How would you like it if you were sleeping and someone woke you up? You should consider the way other people feel besides just yourself. If someone calls me like that, then I answer, then I shove the phone down on them and tell them it is too late to call.

Have you ever been awakened by a phone call in the middle of the night? It shocks you awake and you think that someone in the family died or had a terrible emergency.
It is just plain rude and beyond inconsiderate to call unless it's an emergency.

The waking up thing should speak for itself, I would think.

If someone does call at night, I assume it's some sort of emergency, because otherwise people wouldn't do it. If I found out it wasn't an emergency, I could be frustrated.
