I always enjoy wearing a formal cocktail dress (think Sarah Jessica Parker). That way you still look sophisticated but not over dressed to where you cannot go out later on in the evening.

I went to NY on March 2006 and watch Beauty and The Beast (at nite)...My friends and I went all dress up, high heels...etc..

When we went inside everybody was wearing Jeans and shirts...
We felt Overdressed...


So a Dressy black Pant with a beautyful Shirt will be more than Enough for Broadway....

You should dress up a little, make a special night of it, but be comfortable. A recent questioner asked, and then reported that no one was really dressed up at his production of Jersey Boys. I think, however, it's nice to clean it up a bit.
