I want to help people actually face-to-face and get to know them, so that we could be friends; I don't just want to be stood in a soup kitchen in front of a long line of people or giving loose change to a charity- I want to get to know the people I help, but with no religious or group affiliations.

I'm in the UK. Any ideas? Thanks!

The mistakes of the past are warnings for a better future, but what will happen if they are hidden from the next generations?
With such movements as the "Holocaust denial" we should be alerted to what our kids are heading to!
Even in the face of overwhelming proof, some people choose to deny such events, even when former Nazi guards (e.g. O.Groening) testify out loud that they were witnesses of the genocide!
This whole denial movement is an outrageous insult, not only to the millions of murdered Jews, but also to gays, African-Germans, and other persecuted groups. And to think that one can legaly "deny" this crime against humanity!

How can we keep this invaluable lesson to mankind alive for the coming generations when it's slowly trying to be hidden? Educating our children about the facts? Carefully protecting the thousands of witness accounts? Outlawing "denial"?

What are other things we can simply do to keep it alive?

A guy knocked on my door one evening and said he was collecting doations for our local volunteer fire department. He was not in a uniform nor did he have anythnig that would identify him as a volunteer firefighter. I was being cautious so I told him I had no cash on hand but could I mail in a check in to the department. He told me no, that they "are not set up for that." So I told him that I wouldn't donate and he left. So my questions are would the VFD send a plain clothes person out to collect door to door? And also, could it be possible that the VFD would reject a donation sent in by mail? I just find that hard to believe and I'm wondering if this guy was a scammer.

I do not believe in abortion but do think that we need to control our population. I can't find any charities to donate to which don't do abortion, but do do birth control. I am in the UK, but would be happy to support such a charity based anywhere. Can anyone help?

If you do a lot of community/volunteer service in high school, will it do something if colege universities are looking in your academics paper? Will it help you get into the university or is community service just for NHS members?

Hello everyone
A lot of my friends are on the "a small world" network, and I would really appreciate it if one of you trusted members could help me join. The reason I'm so desperate to get in is the following: I'm looking for an accomodation in Paris, and it's a lot easier through a small world (less competition!). I also would like to be able to build a network of my friends in it. Could anybody help me? I would be so grateful:)
