To me it depends on the crime. All sex offenders should be given no chance to offend again. I would give them all the death penalty.
Prison isn't really helping them, most come out worse then before.

I am a retired prison worker, very little rehabilitation is being done, it costs to much they say, Do you realize there are more people waiting to go to prison than there is in. Whether its a right is a personal call, but are we do an effective job of it, no. When you rehabilitate you have to start from the inside of a person, at the heart. Volunteers would be glad to come in and do it but that would be against seperation of church and state, you see most volunteers are of the church going variety and that don't sit will with the feds or the states for that matter. The ACLU might sue.

Before you do anything about our prison system I think you should do something about our Public Schools.
In case you haven't noticed our Public Schools have turned into war zones with gangs, drugs and violence.
And our public schools have also become teenagers favorite place to have sex because its convenient so many unwanted pregnancies begin there as well.
Did you know that they actually aspire to be prison inmates?
They do,many male teens admire prison inmates and look forwards to the day they can go to prison themselves and be with all their friends.
That's why they wear their pants down to their ankles because in prison they're not allowed to wear belts to hold their pants up so their pants sag and the teens wearing saggy pants like prisoners is a sign that they intend to be just like them someday.
It used to be that High School Students wanted to go on to become Lawyers and Doctors but nowadays they want to be criminals.
So before you do anything about Prison Inmates I think we should try and do something to change the warped mindset of High School Students first.

As a Christian I am well into forgiving those who fail - which of us haven't? Those in jail are just those who were caught!
If you can teach offenders that there are other ways and help them to realise their true potential you should reduce the rate of reoffending. Against that there is the issue of prisons becoming academies of crime (which they often are).
Finally all workers have a right to be treated fairly and to participate in the products of their labour even if this is indirectly. Otherwise we are just as dishonest as they are.

Not only do they have the right to be rehabilitated but they need to be because they will get out some day.

They can be rehabilitated, if they want to be, but most of them don't want to be. They are to lazy to hold down a job that doesn't pay them enough to live on, so they go back to what they know best, crime.
