your soul goes to heaven and your body is just an empty shell after death.

why do churches have graveyards?

2007-12-16 22:59:47 · 29 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

The members of this church are typically referred to as "Mormons". I just wish I could understand why other Christians who profess to love Christ, would persecute another religion who believes and loves Jesus Christ. It doesn't make sense. Can anyone shed some light on this?

your thoughts ?

Yesterday, me and my husband came home and we had something stolen from outside our door. We live in an apartment and my husband had expensive winter boots that he uses for work. We have never had this happen before. We called the police and made a report. I pretty much know who did it, but of course can't prove it. I ended up taking all of my X-mas decorations off the door and left a note in return:

“Merry Christmas. We did have nice decorations on the door for all to see, but do to some low-life thief, they were taken down. But hey, have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

What are your thoughts and what would you have done different? Just curious.

So let's say I made up my own religion where a giant turkey god with peanutbutter pants is worshipped. Now, why is my God any less credible than the christian god? What's the difference?

The removed books are sometimes referred to as the "Apocrypha." They appear in Catholic Bibles, but not Protestant Bibles.

Why doesn't a book written by an omniscient being leave you with a sense of wonder and amazement? If you are reading a book written by the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving creator of the universe, wouldn't you expect to be stunned by the brilliance, the clarity and the wisdom of the author? Would you not expect each new page to intoxicate you with its incredible prose and its spectacular insight? Wouldn't you expect the author to tell us things that scientists have not been able to discover yet?

Yet, when we open the Bible and actually read it, we find it is nothing like that at all. Instead of leaving us in awe, it leaves us dumbfounded by all of the nonsense and backwardness that it contains. If you read what the Bible actually says, you find that the Bible is ridiculous. A book that advocates senseless murder, slavery and the oppression of women has no place in our society today.

I was watching some Discovery Channel this weekend and they had some shows on ancient Egypt which got me thinking, are there still people that follow some of the really old world religions like the multi deity ones from ancient Greece and Egypt?

In my particular faith in Paganism, Magic is neither black nor white. Your karmic retribution (or "three-fold-law") comes from your intent, not the "colour" of the magic you are performing. What are your views on "black" vs. "white" magic?

DISCLAIMER: This question is asked of Pagans/Wiccans/Witches etc. If your only comment is to say "It's all BS" or "It's all Satanist", please, save your energy. Thank you.

article 2270 of the roman catholic communion states:
"Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life."

roman catholics however teach that the sacrament of baptism is necessary for the soul to attain salvation. (the catholic practice of infant baptism - baptising an infant before she can consent to the sacrament - depends on this idea).

2/3 of conceptuses are shed at the first menses after intercourse has taken place.

if infants must be baptised, and the conceptus is a human being from the moment of conception, can someone give me a link to the roman catholic rite for baptising sanpro (or directly baptising the menses, whichever is the easier)?

Nice, isn't it?

I challenge any Christian to provide a rationale for this absurdity: Lets say for the sake of simplicity, a person was evil everyday of their life, for 70 years. How do you rationalize, and see the fairness in an All-Loving GOD, damning that person to hell for all eternity? To show you how absurd this would be, that's 70 years of evil, and let's say, a billion years of paying for it? (I know an eternity is more than a billion, but I wanted to mathematically show how grossly unfair it would be to spend a billion plus years in hell, for 70 years of evil??)

So Christians, how do you rationize this as being fair and just?

I recently learned that according to JW's principles, the maximum occupancy in heaven is 144,000. With current members alone totalling over 6 million, how does one whole-heartedly subscribe to this belief system? 144,00? really? for the entire history of the world as we know it, current population and future generations? Certainly doesn't seem to bode well for the less than holy Jehovah's Witness members out there....seeing as how, those who don't make the cut are said to burn on the day of armegedon.

I find that VERY interesting... and revealing! As in, "Don't confuse me with the FACTS!"

It's not *all* of the above for whom that is true. But it DOES seem to be the case for an inordinately high percentage of them.

Mine is severe, I worked with it for 6 years in a very stressful job that I truly loved but finally could not work at all. I am able to take care of myself, and help others to some extent but mostly in warm weather. The winter is hard but the spring is really tough to manage as I live in WI so lots of rain. Also do you have chemical sensitivies?

John 5:7-8: "For there are three that bear record in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth: the spirit, and the water, and the blood, and these three agree in one."
John l:1 Jesus is God. Then how many Gods are there? Two at least. This contradicts many passages in the Bible: Deuteronomy 4:39: "... that the Lord He is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else"; Deuteronomy 6:4: "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord", (Isaiah 43:10-11): "... that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside Me there is no savior"; (Isaiah 44:6): "Thus saith the Lord ... I am the first, and I am the last, and beside Me here is no God"; (Isaiah 45:18): "For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens;... I am the Lord; and there is none else."

How many God? 3, 2 or 1?

A person who's probably an atheist recently gave this response to a question pertaining to the way atheists and Christians interact on the topic of religious beliefs (or non-beliefs):

"I know the only people who keep knocking on my door, insist on coming in to preach against other beliefs (read: insult people's intelligence and choice) are people of faith.

Never heard of door-to-door atheists."

Does that SAY IT ALL, or what?!?
