Good answer from Justin Martyr in the 2nd century AD:
"We have been taught that Christ is the first-begotten of God, and we have declared him to be the Logos of which all mankind partakes [John 1:9]. Those, therefore, who lived according to reason [Greek, logos] were really Christians, even though they were thought to be atheists, such as, among the Greeks, Socrates, Heraclitus, and others like them. . . . Those who lived before Christ but did not live according to reason [logos] were wicked men, and enemies of Christ, and murderers of those who did live according to reason [logos], whereas those who lived then or who live now according to reason [logos] are Christians. Such as these can be confident and unafraid" (First Apology 46, A.D. 151).
Even without the Gospel, everyone has enough natural evidence to respond with love, decency, and honor to the Creator. As St. Paul says, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
Finally, here's what the Church wrote in CCC 847: "Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation."
Cheers,
Bruce

This is a misconception propagated by the media and most churches (who are about the business of ignorantly creating false converts).
If you read through the Bible (not listen to modern teaching), you will find that people do not go to Hell for not accepting Jesus. (Side note: If I were to commit an offense against my wife, I would not go up to her and tell her that I accept her. Rather, I would repent and ask for *her* acceptance. In the same way, our sin is an offense against God. We do not accept Him; rather, we repent and ask for *His* acceptance.)
Therefore, it is not one's lack of acceptance that puts him or her in Hell. Rather, it is the transgression of God's laws (as all sin is trangression against Him as the Moral Law Giver) and the penalty of that sin is executed in Hell. It is honest, contrition and repentance and trust in Christ that transfers the penalty of sin from oneself to Christ. Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty that the perfect, sinless Lamb of God would shed His blood to atone for the sins of those God accepts.
Read the Bible for yourself and you will find what I am saying is true.

NO. God will not condemn a person for ignorance of Jesus if they have never heard of Him. Every single soul of pass present and future who have not heard of Jesus will be given the opportunity to do so. Jesus already knows their names and knows those who will accept Him when He Himself reveals His Divinity to them
Kaeo: God does not condemn a 3 yr old to hell for not being able to read. Worshiping the bible is blasphemous. use your common sense man!
JimPetti: we are certainly capable of sending ourself to hell. curse God with your whole heart mind and soul and you will see likeminded people in hell. it is our choice to accept Jesus as Lord or not. when we dont then obviously we would rather be elsewhere than with God. your attitude is madness. there is only one sin the Lord will not forgive...every other sin is forgivable..

I believe that we rely on the grace of God to look after all the people who haven't had the opportunity to respond to Jesus.

No. If people did not know of Jesus, God will judge them according to their conscience. It is possible that there are more non-Christians in Heaven than Christians.

No. God wills the salvation of all men:
"Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation."

but they have heard of it, for those that have not heard of it won't there minds wonder? You can't really go anywhere in this day and not see or hear about a god. I believe God shows Himself to everyone in some way, because you can't judge for not knowing something.
