No! The real meaning of Christmas is remembering the spirit of loving and giving. Of honouring those we love and care about and sharing with some we will never meet or know.

That shines through all the hype, the ads and the must have toys.

That we also celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ if we are Christians is a separate issue. It is central to the religious services held on or around Christmas Day and the core of our religion but the message it reminds us to heed is the first one I mentioned and is I suspect the main reason why Christmas gets celebrated around the world to varying degrees by people of all or no religious faiths.

Religious adherents haven't forgotten, I admire them for their continued beliefs.

We Pagans celebrate Yule and impatiently wait for the coming of the new light, those precious minutes everyday after the Solstice.

Gift giving has certainly become more of a national sport. Suggest: Put some bird seed out, feed a hungry stray dog, treat the family to a great meal... Celebrate the coming of the light. Sol invicta.

Absolutely, at least many families appear to have. Television is dominated by toy and gift ideas - often extremely expensive ones -and little time is given to think of those less fortunate. Many children - though thankfully, not all - only consider Christmas in terms of what they will receive on the day and if it weren't for Nativity Plays at school, many would not be aware of the real meaning of Christmas at all.

I believe your question is a joke.
It doesnt help people remember the real meaning when it is referred to as Xmas rather than Christmas.

The "REAL" meaning of CHRISTMAS isn't just about jesus being born, thats only for religious people. And I, along with many others, are not religious in any way. The "REAL" meaning for non-religious people would be to spend time with loved ones, and to give, not recieve. And that meaning has not been forgotten.

I think the jesus meaning has been forgotten because not many people aren't really religious any more, they might say they are, just to look good, but a lot of them don't believe in it.
