The members of this church are typically referred to as "Mormons". I just wish I could understand why other Christians who profess to love Christ, would persecute another religion who believes and loves Jesus Christ. It doesn't make sense. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I am not a mormon, but I have the same questions you do.

All the people who bash mormons talk of false doctrines, as if they own the rights to determine what is true and what is false. You see them mock in derogatory terms the beliefs of mormons in some of the most degrading and disrespectful ways. Mormons do not fight back, because it is their belief that all men have the right to believe as they choose according to the dictates of their own conscience. Because I have friends that are mormon, I often see myself fighting their battles for them, which sucks.

What I do know is that those who degrade another's religion is not acting very Christlike. It is one thing to call out someone within your own faith for spreading false doctrine, but it is out of line to attack believers of another faith simply because they believe differently than you. I would never take anything serious from those who act this way, which is a shame , because they may have something positive once in awhile to offer.

You make a good point. It's not just Mormon's - Christian's seem more than happy to attack any denomination other than the one they are participating in. In essence they are trying to say "I'm more of a Christian than you." "My Chrisitanity is better than yours." If a person believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God who was sent to earth to die for their sins and has accepted Him into their heart - that person is a Christian. Beyond that, it's all doctrine - but doctrine is not how salvation is measured. The Mormon doctrine is not what I adhere to. I was raised Catholic, but do not adhere to the Catholic doctrine any longer either. There are countless Christian doctrines, and even more misunderstood or misguided understandings of those doctrines (and those misconceptions are often the result of other Christians readily attacking the various denominations). I say, if you accept Jesus as your savior, you're a Christian - the rest will work itself out in the wash.

Edit: Does this mean I agree with every single doctrine out there? Absolutely not. But I do know that I am called to live the Christian life and follow Jesus the best way I know how - that in and of itself is a big job. I don't have the time, nor do I desire to attempt to make myself responsible for everyone else's doctrines and beliefs. Everyone can agree that God has a plan, right? So I figure, all the variations must be part of that plan - He is aware of it, He is in control - and if I have faith in Him and trust that He will work His plan, then why should I take such huge issue with it?

Many Christians believe that the prophet Joseph Smith was a false prophet and a showman more than a religious leader. They find it hard to believe that this man found some mysterious tablets sent down from God for him to translate and to start "the true religion" upon the earth.

I don't think that Christians question their belief in Christ. But they do question the books the Mormons have added to the bible based on the teachings of what they consider a false prophet. Many consider this faith to be a cult more than religion.

Hey Jesus said Christians would be persecuted and that all would hate those who love him.

Jehovahs witnesses, Muslims and many other religions also face ridicule and opposition etc, not just LDS!!!!!

Also Jesus said that he was the only way to get salvation-not through any MAN, so many find it unnaceptable the role that Joseph Smith plays in LDS beliefs.

There is a huge misnomer within the title of the Mormon Church. They say - Jesus Christ", but the Mormon Church does not recognize the Jesus Christ of the Christian faith. They are different.
If you don't know, the Mormons believe that "their" Jesus is the brother of Satan and has no deity attached to him. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out Mormon doctrine and you will see the truth of this deceit for yourself.

Many churches teach very skewed versions of Mormonism so that their followers wont be tempted to convert or just so they can try to gain converts themselves through their lies.

Some teach that LDS is an evil cult that is sending people to hell by corrupting true christians.

While LDS is doing great and growing faster than any other denomination in the country, the Souther Baptist are losing record numbers of people to other faiths, especially LDS. Of course theyre going to be fighting.

There used to be an unspoken rule that you dont try to steal Christians from another denomination. The Southern Baptist broke that rule, now the Mormons are breaking it and the Baptists are pissed that LDS does it even better than they did.

It had nothing to do with beliefs anymore, now its all to do with which church has the most power.

I can shed some light on this. The Book of Mormon makes claims about Jesus that most Christians would consider blasphemies. All this stuff about God having sex with Mary, Lucifer being the brother of Jesus... It just takes so many bizarre liberties that Christians view it as outside the general scope of their religion. (Probably even more so than Catholicism.) It's a complete departure from known history concerning Jesus and has no basis in Jesus' original teachings. The socially taboo endorsement of polygamy is probably it's biggest blow, however.

These aren't necessarily my views, but based on everything I have heard, this is what is up.

Mormons have different beliefs on Christianity

They believe in Polygamy and another a prophet (can't remember the name)

Some people actually call it a cult

But that is a few reasons why some Christians don't like Mormons.

We don't hate them they do a lot of good in the world

They just don't follow the bible we follow

I have never persecuted them. Do you even know what the definition of persecute is. I haven't heard of any of them being scoured and hung on a cross lately, or did I miss something. Oh by the way, let's not forget what Harry Truman said : "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"!
