Okay, I asked a couple of questions here, and I have gotten some good answers (thank you), some off the wall answers (okay ... um ... thank YOU) and some downright nasty, self-righteous answers as well. If you think I'm wrong, am a big sinner, so be it. The fact of the matter is, every Christian deals with doubt at some point. Every Christian deals with things they thought were God's will, but things did not turn out the way they had been led to believe they received direction for, and it causes confusion. If you say you have not experienced this, chances are you are not being honest in this forum, or it just hasn't happened to you YET. Whoo hoo. Of course I am not silly enough to believe that I should hope in man, but I have put my hope in God regarding some fundamental things in my life, and I am still standing on the curb waiting for the freaking taxi. If you don't like that I question, or make a "thesis" out of Christianity, that is a personal issue. So, wouldn't you be annoyed?

Yea, there are examples of older religions disrespecting the new ones, such as Catholocism disrespecting the Protestants but usually newer religions have to curse-out and defame the older ones.
I myself, am a Jew. In our synagogues on Saturday, we pray, read the Torah, the rabbi makes his sermon of the weekly portion and ties it to life lessons. In no way, are other religions, or politics even discussed. One because these are mundane matters, and two because we don't say anything about other religions.

But you see undercover tapes from Mosques, and the Imam lambasts both Jews and Christians to go to hell as unbelieving infidels and so on...
I also had the oppurtunity to attend a Lutheran Church service when I stayed the night at my friend's house. Constantly, again, the pastor spoke about Jews in a derogatory manner from the Gospels, which I found uncomfortable, but no one seemed to notice around me. I asked my friend about it and he was like, "what do you mean?"

I was invited to a joint sweet sixteen. There are three girls who are holding it. They each had their own guest list. My friend said we didn't have to get gifts for everyone but I was talking to other people and we all agree it would be kind of awkward to get a gift for one person but not the other two. I'm good friends with one girl but not really friends with the other two. Any gift suggestions?

So on the block is a g@y bar and a church

The bar -has a bunch of people in it - that are dancing drinking and socializing -

The church has a bunch of people in it teaching division and laws about an invisible sky god - who needs to have people killed for disagreeing with him

Even if this church/sky god now preaches love - it has a dark and horrid history that does not bode well for his character/family life etc

Even with the "love" comes the statemet god doesn't want you to do that it is bad - division and hate and I am better than you permeate the message

Meanwhile at the g@y bar an argument over drapes has begun and ended - there might be a purchase of a toy poodle tommorow and so on

My ex husband had our children baptized in a Catholic Church without my knowledge. I'm not upset about it at all. I just have some questions so that I can at least help my children learn a bit more about thier religion. Their father is in New Orleans and we are in San DIego so they only go to Catholic church a few times a year. My questions are.

Would my children be accepted in any catholic church in my area or do they have to go to the church they were baptized in?

What is "caddykizzim"? I did a spell check and still not sure if I spelled it correctly.

SHould my children decide they don't want to attend a catholic church, rather seek out another religion, would they always be considered catholic?

As you can see, I am not catholic and have no idea on how to help my children with this when they ask me questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any negative responses will be deleted.

Thanks!

If the gene sequence of the male Y chromosome were mapped, would all males sampled have the same sequence?Since the male (human) receives the same Y that his father had, would the lineage be unbroken back to some unknown beginning? Aside from mutations/breaks etc an argument can be made that the chain IS unbroken. Maybe someone has considered this question and has some answers.Actual research may hve been done? When someone says that we are all brothers, in fact we are if you have the same Y as everyone else on the block!Hope to hear some real sense on this.

I am terribly uncomfortable when the congregation is expected to sing. I am tone deaf as well as have a breathing condition that doesn't allow the long-winded singing that hymns usually require. I feel like a cheater if I stand and just move my lips and rude if I get up and walk out during the congregational singing, returning afterward to hear the sermon.

Is there a church for me out there somewhere that I can attend church, hear a sermon not be required to participate with something as awkward as singing?

How do you tell the difference between someone who is speaking things inspired by God, and someone who is simply crazy? It all sounds pretty much the same. How do you know the authors of the bible weren't insane? Go to a mental institution & see how many "prophets" of god you find there.

Sorry, had to ask a follow up question. I asked about the quote because I identify with it at times. As a person who really tries to be obedient and love others, help others when I can, and love God, I feel like a lot of the time, Bible concepts don't work for me. For example, the Bible says that "hope does not disappoint us" (Romans 5:5) and that those who hope in God "will not be disappointed." (Isaiah 49:23) I have been disappointed many times. That is just one example.

Here is the first questionn w/ the quote ...

It would be alright if they ignored it, but I worry that some youngsters might be living with these pent up feelings, really believing that something so natural is wrong. And it could well injure their health.

Would you consider this to be good preaching? It is audio only and about 30 years old.

He has a sermon called "Is there a doctor in the house" (I think) that I have heard much about and have not been able to find. Would like to hear it though.
