Sorry, had to ask a follow up question. I asked about the quote because I identify with it at times. As a person who really tries to be obedient and love others, help others when I can, and love God, I feel like a lot of the time, Bible concepts don't work for me. For example, the Bible says that "hope does not disappoint us" (Romans 5:5) and that those who hope in God "will not be disappointed." (Isaiah 49:23) I have been disappointed many times. That is just one example.

Here is the first questionn w/ the quote ...

I don't think that means people will never be disappointed in life, but that rather our ultimate hope of seeing Jesus will not be let down. Jesus himself predicted trials and tribulations, and those are sure to bring temporary feelings of disappointment, but we have a Great Hope which shall not be in vain.

How long did you hope? This isn't a concept. This is truth. You just dont put a quarter in a slot and expect God to do something for you. In your time limit. We are seeking something from the almighty God. Not ordering a burger from Jack in the Box. What are you hopeing for? God has His own reasons for doing everything. We cannot manipulate Him. I'm not accusing you of doing this. But in todays world there seems to be a false understanding of who God is. First, He created us and not the other way around. We come to Him on His tearms and not ours. Allot of people just seem to think that if you want anything, you just pray for it. And the way they pray sounds more like an order at a restaraunt. As if God is some kind of servant. There are so many missconceptions about God, that when they pray according to that missconception, they are disapointed with the results. So they give up on God and tell everyone that they tried Christianity but it didn't work for them. Unfortunatly they never new what they were doing and they never new who they were hopeing in because who God is and what we want Him to be are two different things. If you truely want to know God, there is only one way that you can seek Him. 100% Top priority. Remember, this is the almighty all powerful God that you are seeking. Not some jeeni who grants requests.

Many young Christians have a misunderstanding of these principles in the Bible. Our hope is not for this life necessarily But for our eternal life. Look at Abraham, the promises that he received from God took a life time to realize, and some no even in his life time. But he trusted God and the promises that he received were fulfilled. He became the father of many nations. And he fathered a son in his old age by his wife who also was beyond the age of child bearing.
I hope that this helps you with your struggle. our hope and expectation is for the future. This life is a trial a testing period, a time of tempering, of preparation.
God bless

Yes, this is a very difficult question, the actual text from the Bible however does not say "dissapoint" it says "Ashame", which then gives this scripture a completely different meaning. however, is till want too adress your questions premise, and that is that you say that you often find yourself dissapointed. The BIble neevr says that the Christian life would not have trials and tribulations, the Bible does however give some insight, and throught scripture it says that our HOpe should be focused on jesus Christ, and the ture and personal relationship we have with him, we can rejoice in that hope and know that we will not be dissapointed, because God will bring forth every soul that has been "saved" too live with him in eternity. when we become dissapointed paul says we should look and gzae upon the Hope we have enherit, not of our ownselves but through the Grace of Christ jesus Our Lord.
God Bless

Lets look at Romans 5:5 in context (which is how you should look at every Bible verse)

1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have[a] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

You notice that first you are justified by faith, then you have peace with God. Then it says that you are to glory in tribulations, (that means troubles and disappointments of life) then those tribulations bring about perseverance (the ability to endure and stick with something through the tough disappointing times), finally that perseverance produces character, then that character produces hope, and it is THAT hope which will not disappoint.

It does not say we will never have disappointment in life. As for Isaiah 49:23, it is very true that if you hope is in God, you won't be disappointed ABOUT THAT because God will come through.

We will have trouble in this life, disappointments, but our hope in Heaven will not disappoint us.

Hope that helps.

I have been disappointed plenty of times in life...but when I look at things in retrospect, I am able to see what and why things happen. I try not to hold onto the past, and if I do hold on to it, I try to understand why and use that past experience (painful or not) to my and others advantage. Use the pain and disappointment to be productive and benefit yourself and others. An example would be developing compassion for others from a tragedy that you have experienced. It would be up to you to figure out for your own situation how to do this...

God will not disappoint you.
People will.
Things won't always turn out the way you want them to.
You might not be able to afford everything you want in life.
You may not get your dream job.
That person you were so sure you were in love with, who would never let you down, may turn out to be a jerk.
Etc, etc, etc....ad nauseaum.

Don't forget, we are all living on condemned real estate. Nothing in this world will last, nothing here is dependable, nothing here lasts.
But your relationship with God is permanent...transcending death, itself.
Try taking Christ's advice, and put your treasure in Heaven...for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also....

I think i know what your talking about...
In my opinion i believe that God has a way of creating a balance in life....
Examples...
If something small goes wrong in your life E.g losing money...God will make something Good happen for you
If you go though a few months/weeks of happiness/sadness then you will then go though a few weeks/months of happiness/sadness (the opposite of last time) && it will keep switching.
That's just what i believe from things that have happened in my life, hope it helps

Read the story of JOB.

He was a righteous man who loved God.

But Satan tormented him. Nonbelievers would say God allowed it. Truth be told, Job and God were both on trial before all the faithful angels. God has to be fair in all things because He is God.
The only limit on Gods power is fairness. Satan accused God of cheating by protecting Job too much. He claimed Job would curse God and cease worshiping him if some bad things happened to him. Satan did some horrible things to Job, but he never forsake God. That story is in the bible to remind us that God will make all things right in the end.

Your disappointments are like unto what happened to Job. God didn't really tell us that NO bad things would occur, but He did promise to make all things right to those who love Him.

Joseph had faith in the Lord and he ended up ruling all of Egypt after spending years as a slave and in prison.
I have faith in God and I know even if I go through trials and tribulations that nothing can even compare to what Jesus went through on the cross for me and for you.
I have faith that I will never suffer as much as Jesus did and so far I haven't.
