I don't agree with most people's suggestions of taking away their life or permanent incarceration.

I also think this is the worst crime someone can commit but there has to be a better solution than just washing away the problem. More understanding is needed.

I do agree that if it is a serious case of pedophilia involving multiple or obvious devious behavior then castration (surgical not chemical) is a good solution. I think that due to the litigious nature over a lot of convictions in the US especially that the crime needs to be especially bad and 100% proven with no doubt.

Firstly however, I think the subject should be put in a mental institution where they undergo research into their behavior to try and find the true cause of the problem and find a solution. I think this research should not have to meet the normal ethical requirements of other mental facilities but be a little less concerned with the subjects rights.

Then, prior to release after a number of years of research and rehabilitation, the castration should occur.

I would have to say though that if the crime happened to one of my children, I would have no hesitation to agree to the life of the criminal being taken as fast as possible.

Child molestation is horrible but the death penalty should be reserved for murderers. If it is applied to others, what is going to stop them from just killing their victims since there won't be any additional penalty when they're caught? Besides, I've read that child molesters don't have an easy time in prison, so that sounds like a sufficient punishment.

It should be tattooed on their foreheads as a constant warning for other parents.Maybe after 10 years, and no offenses, they could have it removed. Most of them do get counseling and rehabilitation after they are caught, but it doesn't seem like it helps alot of them. If it is a second offense, I believe their sexual organs should be made unuseable. I know it sounds harsh, but there have been some really bad sexual crimes around my area with children under 10 years old.

Statistics say that that counseling and rehabilitation does not work for sexual criminals. The problem with something like castration or the death penalty is the possibility of wrongful guilty findings.

...I would set them free, at the mid night hour, tell them the nearest location to town, and the direction, have them don a backpack, weighing twice the individual's body weight, wish the offender luck and have said person"...walk the plank". If, survival is a concern, individual can undo the backpack, if not, no mess to clean, officials will inform love ones, and the
family of offended individual that the offender has been released at an undisclosed location, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. anyone, interested can go and search for said individual.

Castration and life in prison doing an occupation.
This question applies more to Senior Citizens than some of you may realize.
Where do you think the term " dirty old man" originates from?

Castration or removal of the penis, would not work, as there are other things to do that do not involve the sexual organs.
Counseling and rehab have not proved to work, as there are many repeat offenders. I say just put them in prison and let the other prisoners give them their due. They do like these type of people themselves and hold them at the bottom rung of their peers. Of course it would be without any possibility of parole. The other option is death penalty.

Debi C has a great point and I agree that counseling does not work, I think it should be 2 x caught - life in prison. See prisoners hate child molesters and usually hurt them and somtimes kill them. I consider this a natural consequence for his deeds.

I dont think counseling or rehab works with these type of offenders. Castration prob wont work either because they still have evil minds. I can only think of one way to deal with them and that is for them to be sent to a remote place somewhere and left to rot with others of their kind.
