Suppose a bunch of your friends made you angry and they asked you for forgiveness. You told them, "Alright, I'll forgive you all, but you will have to kill your dogs as a sacrifice for me."
So one of them asked, "How does killing my dog has anything to do with forgiveness?"
You said, "Well, by killing your beloved dog, you are all showing me that I am greater than your dog."
Later on, because you loved your friends so much, you told them that this time you will sacrifice your own dog in order to be able to forgive them. (This should make perfect sense for a Christian)
So one of them asked, "How does sacrificing your own dog have anything to do with forgiving us?"
You replied, "Well after I have killed my dog I will suddenly have the power to forgive....and..."
Before you could finish your sentence, one of your friends stepped up to answer instead, "Well, by killing your beloved dog, you are showing us that we are greater than your dog."
