Suppose a bunch of your friends made you angry and they asked you for forgiveness. You told them, "Alright, I'll forgive you all, but you will have to kill your dogs as a sacrifice for me."

So one of them asked, "How does killing my dog has anything to do with forgiveness?"

You said, "Well, by killing your beloved dog, you are all showing me that I am greater than your dog."

Later on, because you loved your friends so much, you told them that this time you will sacrifice your own dog in order to be able to forgive them. (This should make perfect sense for a Christian)

So one of them asked, "How does sacrificing your own dog have anything to do with forgiving us?"

You replied, "Well after I have killed my dog I will suddenly have the power to forgive....and..."

Before you could finish your sentence, one of your friends stepped up to answer instead, "Well, by killing your beloved dog, you are showing us that we are greater than your dog."

Before you attempt to ask where my question is (as a way to avoid the issue), here it is! Does this whole passage make sense? After all, it's just what you Christians believe isn't it? And do you agree with the last assertion?

Here's MY question:

Why do christians obviously bother you so much? It might be enlightening for you to honestly ask yourself why it makes you angry that christians can easily have so much faith and comfort in God.

God is good.

And by the way, I would have answered your question but it made absolutely no sense whatsoever. The only thing I could take from it is that you have issues with the christian religion and sound like a very angry, hurt, sad person for some reason. Why?

Take care and God bless.

Jesus was not a dog...He is the son of God. Your dog wouldn't willingly die for you. Jesus did because He loves and cares for you. Your dog's sacrifice couldn't be an adequate price for your sin. God says all have sinned a come short of the glory of God. The penalty for sin is eternal separation from God in a place called Hell. Eternity is written on your heart and when you die, your soul will live somewhere forever. You choose by following Christ who died in your place or by rejecting Him. If you want to believe that your dog is any comparison for Christs sacrifice, then you will have an eternal disappointment when you enter eternity at your death. No one is promised tomorrow and so many are dying each day with out the gift God gave in Jesus thinking they had more time. God loves you and demonstrated His love through Jesus Christ. Consider the alternative, and Christs sacrifice is brought into a different perspective.

I will make an attempt to help you understand the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Adam through disobedience and rebellion lost perfection for himself and all his offspring. He was now imperfect and sinful and all of his offspring were now born imperfect and in his sin. God is holy. (the term mean pure and clean) Thus there was a divide between God and his human creation. Human were effectively sold into sin and death by Adam. God wanted no divide between Himself and his human creation. But there was a price, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, soul for soul, perfection for perfection. No imperfect human could close the divide, or buy back humankind from sin and death. Only a perfect life could redeem humankind, since it was a perfect life that was sold. That is why it is called the ransom sacrifice. All sins and deaths due to inherited sin from Adam could now be undone completely. There is only one kind of sin that cannot be forgiven. Also Forgiveness is a gift from God, since He was the one wronged and was not obligated to forgive, humans are obligated to forgive each other because we are all sinful and hurt others and are hurt. The ransom is more than just forgiveness it means life. The purpose of the ransom was to begin closing the divide between God and Humankind. Christ can be likened to a bridge between us and God.

Well there is more, but I think that all you can handle... thanks.

The question as posed is nonsensical because it is non analogous. You describe a situation amongst friends or equals with none having greater presence of being over the other. Simply put, you left God out of the analogy so it seems senseless. You have trivialized the real event to serve your own whimsical wit.
If you dip a rose in manure, the result is your bouquet will stink but roses, by nature, will still smell as sweet.

This isn't a complete analogy. It sounds like the theoretical "you" in the story is a human. We can forgive the sins of others, but we can't atone for them because we are not perfect. We humans don't have the moral right to force another human to make sacrifices to us.

And a dog cannot atone for the sins of a human. It took Jesus, who was appeared in human form and lived a perfect life, to amend for all our sins.

This analogy equates forgiveness with atonement, which is not correct. We can forgive what someone does to us, but we cannot cancel out their sin. Only Jesus can do that.

For example, Bob punches Jack in the face. Jack can forgive Bob and be his friend again, but that doesn't mean Bob didn't sin.

You don't know what you are talking about. Christians don't believe in sacrificing for forgiveness. Christians believe in Loving unconditionally and forgiving from the heart.

I have learned as a true Christian not to hold a grudge or seek for revenge even those that have offended me physically or emotionally. I have learned to forgive because that is what Jesus asked of US.

GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!

Sorry. You got it all wrong. Or rather you're way behind the times. No animal sacrifice. That's old hat. Jesus made the sacrifice, oh about 2000 years ago. No other sacrifice has to be made. Now all we need to do is ask forgiveness and trust that Jesus' sacrifice was enough to get us to heaven.

The difference is we are not a friend of God we are foes. that being said. If your enemy came to you being the person that made your life miserable and said please let me stay with you and give me everything that you can give will you just open the door to them??? be truthful to yourself. You are going to want them to do something special ( IFyou decide to forgive them) to show that they will not be an enemy anymore. But then instead of them giving you something will you ( now be truthful ) give your most prized possession in return for them to stay with you??

No, it's not what we orthodox Christians believe. Where did you come up with that well-though-out but flawed allegory?

Jesus Christ is the God-Man, fully human yet fully God at the same time. A dog is an animal. No connection. In order for us to live with God in eternity, we must be as good as He is. Since none of us comes close, he made a way for us to be considered righteous so we can be with God and live the life he selected us for on Earth, and in Heaven later.

The Way is Jesus Christ. He died for you sins, past, present and future. The only sin he could not die for was the sin of your rejecting Him as your saviour. By believing in him you are forgiven and cleansed of that one remaining sin, and then when God looks at you, he sees the righteousness of the only Man who has every been good enough to please God, His uniquely born Son (mistranslated in most English bibles "only begotten Son")

You must realize that God is only impressed with Himself, never anything that He has created. The second most impressive thing in the universe is the angel Lucifer, and Lucifer (Satan) is going to spend eternity in the Lake of Fire, so where do you stand without the righteousness of Christ to cover you?

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.
