I went from a Christian to an atheist over the last six months. Suddenly I am having a hard time even being able to comprehend why a rational person would believe in God. It seems odd to me, considering I used to believe, myself. I need to find a way to relate to theists because I do not ever want to come across as disrespectful. Help?

I have known many people - both secular and religious who have worked in this feild and described similar reasons - but used different language in doing so. Does experience precede language? If so can we be sharing experiences and not knowing it?

Do you choose to be straight... do you choose to like Caramel over Toffee? Do Gays wake up one morning and say "I think I'll be gay now"...any body who thinks so must be a really closed minded idiotic fool. They choose to practice homosexual things... if you mean this, than yeah it's a choice.. but I don't blame them.

"The Talmud speaks of establishing a "fence" around the law, making restrictions that may not make sense in and of themselves but that serve to keep one away from more serious violations. For example, because one is not allowed to transact with money on the Sabbath, one it not allowed even to touch money on the Sabbath."

The article I'm reading is about Pennsylvania planning to give people $300.00 towards a funeral for their dead relative’s organs.

Thanks!

One of our regulars who has been ill was here this morning. We were happy to see her here.

She was called a "fair weather Christian" by an ignorant fundie, probably because she is beloved by so many of us non-Christians here.

Fair's fair, you know. So why not ask your priest, rabbi, minister, imam, guru to spend at least one sermon on each of the following?:
- the Buddha's Eightfold Path
- the Hindu Vedas
- the Zoroastrian Avesta
- the Q'uran (plus one for the Hadith)
- the Five Classics of Confucius, and finally,
- some of the various oral traditions of the Aztecs, Incans, and Mayans.

OK this woman and a male friend were raped by 7 men in Saudi Arabia. The rapist were initially given 2 years. After outrage, they were increased to 10 years. The womans sentence was doubled. Yes she was guilty of meeting a man she was not related, she now get 6 months in jail and 200 lashes.

What do you think of this sentence. The fact that this is the law propogated by the keepers of the Islamic faith. I am especially interested in what muslims have to say.

Looking forward to your answers and thanks for answering!

He has a film coming out in February called "EXPELLED: No Intelligence" about Intelligent Design which promotes "The God of the Gaps". If science doesn't fit...fill the gaps in with God. Is he an idiot or is he just trying to make a buck? Isn't he Jewish? Am I wrong in my assumption that Intelligent Design was a Christian pseudo-science?

A comment was made that if more people admitted they were atheists they would lose their job, family, friends, etc.

Who really discusses their religion that much, esp with casual friends and coworkers?

I have had some jobs where noone ever knew what my religion was because nobody really cares that much.

Do you people go up to strangers and say hi I am an atheist or buddhist or christian or whatever?

The Word of God reads:

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." 1 John 5:4

"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." Colossians 2:8

Salvation is only between the individual and Christ, so say the Word of God. So, how can purgatory save someone from hell? Therefore, where is the need for purgatory?

This website gives insight on the relationship between the Bible and the concept of animal compassion.

With all this evidence of vegetarianism being the ideal lifestyle, why aren't there more vegetarians amongst Bible readers?

I'm not a Christian myself, but I do study religions, and I'm very interested in topics such as morality beliefs amongst religious groups

I'm not pushing anything, I'm just curious. I personally have high respect for vegetarians (I am one myself). Thanks for your input. I just want your opinion.

Because if he knew beforehand beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would be resurrected and glorified after his trials, that makes a mockery of everything he endured. It means he just went through the motions of suffering and dying, which no human being has the luxury of.

"He came to die on a cross so He could be raised again" only means that God the Father knew what was going to happen, but where does it specifically say Jesus knew it?

If he knew with certainity the glory that was waiting for him after 3 days in hell, and just pretended to be in dispair and to feel total abandonment on the cross, then he never suffered everything that we humans suffered. He cheated by having absolute certainty (that no human has, no matter how strong his faith -- the ones who claim to be 100% sure are deceiving themselves) of his escaping hell and death, so why should I believe him?

My wife and I were having a debate on this. My wife is a "soft stud" or a "soft butch". She wears all men's clothing, including boxers and cologne. I told her that TECHNICALLY, she is a cross dresser as well. She's not buying it....what do you think.

Come on, help me win this argument LOL.

I disagree with praying to the saints and to Mary even for intercessory prayer. I feel it is unbiblical. Instead of writing out why, I have an article from a website I am in full agreement with and I just would like your opinion AFTER you have read it.
