Because if he knew beforehand beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would be resurrected and glorified after his trials, that makes a mockery of everything he endured. It means he just went through the motions of suffering and dying, which no human being has the luxury of.

"He came to die on a cross so He could be raised again" only means that God the Father knew what was going to happen, but where does it specifically say Jesus knew it?

If he knew with certainity the glory that was waiting for him after 3 days in hell, and just pretended to be in dispair and to feel total abandonment on the cross, then he never suffered everything that we humans suffered. He cheated by having absolute certainty (that no human has, no matter how strong his faith -- the ones who claim to be 100% sure are deceiving themselves) of his escaping hell and death, so why should I believe him?

My, my. You've been listening to too many fundamentalists and their twisted, superstitious theologies. Bad idea, man.

You're right, of course: the bible doesn't say that Jesus knew before the crucifixion that everything would turn out hunkydorry. It says He trusted His Father, but that didn't negate the very human doubt He was experiencing when He cried out "Father Father, why have you forsaken me?"

The psalm He was quoting is exactly what you are talking about. In it, David describes his feelings of abandonment and despair, but also admits that he knows that if he trusts God, thing will turn out all right. This isn't a negation of dis pair and feelings of abandonment, but it is working through all that suffering to come out victorious on the other side.

Of course Jesus didn't know about the resurrection and glory that was waiting for him. If He did, that would've made the whole gospel from Pilate to His interment in the tomb nothing but a nice piece of showy drama.

I believe that His despair on the cross was as complete as any that humans, even humans with supernatural faith, face in their lives.

There are certain fundamentalists who need to think that God has everything predestined and that Jesus, as God, knew about everything that ever would happen. They have a kind of "science fiction" religion, and they cling to it and try to g et others to buy into it too. Entertaining, but not real: When Jesus rose from the dead, I have no doubt that His first thought was "What is happening to me?"

John 2:19 - Destroy this temple and in three days, I will raise it up again.
As a witness against him the same statement was made by a man testifying against him - Matt 26:61
You need not believe anyone or anything. Free will choice.
You seem to be looking for reasons why not to believe. Then don't. His mission was to reveal the father to the world and show obedience to the father. It says he took on the sins of the world as a last sacrifice which overcame the chains that bind men from going to heaven. You will still have a review of your life and face Judgment for every thought, word, and deed. What he did was opened the door so you could get there. He cheated no one. All is simultaneous and all is know in Heaven. you are thinking on a third dimension not a spiritual one. It does not make a difference that he knew. He went through the pain and suffering because he was obeying the will of His father. He could have allowed himself to be hidden and fought against those who apposed his teachings and sought to destroy him. He could have taught and Eye for an eye, but he taught Love and forgiveness even unto to cross he set an example of Love and forgiveness. " Father forgive them, they know not what they do." You read his words and decide what you want to believe. Why you should believe is your job to find out why not. Pursue your doubts if you must.

Jesus Christ is the WORD made flesh; the WORD of God made flesh, John 1: 1 and 1:14 Now verse 3 reveals that apart from; ..."the WORD was not anything made that was made" Man needed salvation so God made His WORD become a man, that would be the sacrificial Lamb. God gave this Iconic precept Ever since Abraham, and to Moses under the system of law and how Israel missed there sacrificial Lamb puzzles millions. If you read Hebrews chapters 8, 9 and 10 you will see the weakness of the flesh and the fault and inability that sin should be purged with the blood of animals , but only made atonement to the purifying of the flesh but could not purged the conscience from sin and its guilt and condemnation. In Galatians 3: 10 -29 you will see more of what roll the law played and how that Israel was kept under the Law shut up unto the faith which was in Christ should come. That faith is the righteousness of God and is the redemption work of the cross of Christ and His resurrection from the dead. In that Christ is the Son of God as we see or that which is revealed to us, is understood both in that He was born of a virgin , Luke 1: 28-37. No man after Christ birth could make a claim to Christ being their son, but God in that the Word was made flesh, and the that the WORD is His name, before becoming flesh yet being in the beginning and with God and was God; with God being with the Father and if with the Father then being the Son of God, Matthew 3: 1-17 God declares the Son Romans 1: 4 In Romans 1: 4 the words to be are in italics, and shouldn't be there. It is God declaring the Son of Good with power in that the Spirit came upon Him at that day at the Jordan and also who raised Him from the dead. The Spirit of Holiness also speaks of 1 Timothy 3: 16 ..." justified in the Spirit"... This speaks of being acquitted, having become sin for us, with bearing the sins of the world upon Him, and was judged as never ever having committed sin. It was the WORD that came to Abraham, Genesis 12: 1 of course the WORD had not yet been made flesh. It was the Word that came to Isaac and Jacob. that is they heard the Word of God voice. Which John 1 : 1 speaks of, drawing a line all the way to the beginning. The WORD being the agent of creation and being that without Him was not anything made that was made, He manifested His ability through names, as well as when the WORD became flesh; I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life, I AM the resurrection and the life, I Am the bread of life, I AM the true Vine, I AM the light of the world, etc.

There are many messages in the books Mattew Mark John where Jesus talked about building the church in 3 days after it was destroyed. He did not cheat. If He had not not died the way He did we will not be reconciled with God. He carried our sins on His body and the Lord who could not stand sin left Him to suffer. He went to hell for 3 days to conquer the the place.

Why believe Him? So that you can spend eternity in heaven. Read the Bible even if for only for the fun and heck of it and discover God.

Google or Yahoo search to the search for for God. He is God. Try Him.

The minute I read it, I knew it would attract the wackos and here they are. Jon M is the only person who answered your question.

Jesus had faith, but that is not the same thing as 100% assurance. The people who say that Jesus knew everything that would happen are showing a great lack of faith themselves.

Matthew 16:21-28

21From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
EDIT:
Foreknowledge would not make His sacrifice a 'mockery' since the suffering and death were real.
For an idea of how condemned men were treated, see "The Passion Of The Christ".

Sure Jesus knew before hand, He also knew his brother Satan like him has the ability to obey God or do his own thing. Jesus could have lived forever on earth. His body was perfect. and he did not sin,But he gave his perfect body up for you. Jesus while on earth had an opportunity to give messages from God of hope and freedom from sin once and for all time. Does that mean anything to you? Jesus brought the dead back from the grave and healed blind, deaf, lepers, lame, all kinds of things. He did it to try to convince you that God loves you. We base our calender on the life of Jesus. we have millions of Church's around the world. If Jesus was a passing fad why would his life still be as loved to day as it was 2000 years ago? A bunch of Idiot atheists in this forum making fun of God will one day have to give an accounting of themselves to God but even then Thanks be to Jesus, they will have a redeemer also.

Luke 24:44-49 IN JESUS' OWN WORDS

Then he told them, "These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you -- that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled."

Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He also said to them, "This is what is written: the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead that third day, and be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And Look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high."

A bit off in your logic I fear; our assurance of resurrection is the same as Christ's was. In fact I mis-state that: our confidence is greater than his, as the Bible makes it clear he is the assurance of resurrection. Anyone in Christ has the same promise that Christ knew - that we will be raised after death to glory. Does that make our death any less painful or feared?

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Matthew 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

38Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you."

39He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
