wouldn't it make more sense to report your neighbor to the police, claiming he or she is a psychopathic serial killer? think about it, what's the worse that could happen? at the very worst you'll find out you're wrong, maybe get hit with a fine, and have to do some community service (hey some good comes out of it). but let's say you're right, and your neighbor actually is a psychopathic serial killer. the police bust him and prevent him from killing possibly hundreds, if not thousands of people. isn't the benefit of being right far greater than the risk of being wrong? are you really that afraid of a little fine and some community service that you'll allow thousands of innocent people to killed? how selfish are you?

I am thinking after my two last questions and the feed back I've gotten that it's just so absurd. If the millions of the people who've died and the ones who will live forever, where is god going to place them? Then there would be an overpopulated world.........or is there another place called earth #2? Besides things we say can be lost in translation, how would I know for sure that the 66 books in the bible are accuarte?

Purgatory is simply the place where already saved souls are cleansed of the temporal effects of sin before they are allowed to see the holy face of Almighty God.

Revelation 21:27 tells us that "...nothing unclean will enter [Heaven]."

That there are temporal effects of sin is obvious when one considers that even those who have been baptized, who have a deep and intimate relationshp with Jesus, who are the "elect" or "the saved/being saved," or what have you, are subject to pain, work, death and sickness.

Purgatory is His way of ensuring that Revelation 21:27 is true and that nothing unclean will see Heaven. It is only through Christ's sacrifice that we are shown this mercy! It is Christ and Christ alone Who allows us access to the Father.

It's isn't in the Bible, but neither are the words "Trinity," "abortion," "lesbianism," and "cloning" (or "Rapture," for that matter), and it doesn't matter whether you call the process of purgation "purgatory" or the "Final Theosis": the concept of a "final cleansing" or "purgation" for those who require it is very evident in the Bible, in the writings of the early Church Fathers, and in the Old Testament religion whence Christianity sprang.

Daniel 12:2, Matthew 12:32, 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, 2 Timothy 1:16-18, Hebrews 12:14, Hebrews 12:22-23, 1 Peter 4:6 and Revelation 21:10, 27 all speak of Purgatory in their telling of the need for purification, prayers for the dead, Christ's preaching to the dead, or how nothing unclean will see God.

Archaeology also indicates the antiquity of the Christian belief in Purgatory/the Final Theosis: the tombs of the ancient Christians were inscribed with words of petition for peace and for rest, and at the anniversaries of deaths, the faithful gathered at the graves of the departed to make intercession for those who'd gone before.

Orthodox Jewish practices, which branched off from the Old Testament religion, to this day reflect belief in this "place" of final purification which they call Gehenom: when an Orthodox Jewish person dies, a ritual called the taharah is performed by the "Chevra kaddisha -- gmilat khessed shel emet," the "Holy Society" or "Burial Society" of Jews knowledgeable in these traditional duties. They cleanse and prepare the physical body and recite the required prayers (Chevra Kadisha) which ask God for forgiveness for any sins the departed may have committed, and beg Him to guard and grant eternal peace to the departed. For eleven months after the death of a loved one certain members of the family pray a prayer called the Mourner's Qaddish (or Kaddish) for their loved one's purification.

Even the The Talmud1 speaks of Purgatory:

Sabbath 33b:
"The judgment of the wicked in purgatory is twelve months."
Rosh HaShanah 16b-17a:
"It has been taught that the school of Shammai says: "There will be three groups on Judgment Day (yom haDin):
(1) one that is completely righteous,
(2) one that is completely wicked,
(3) and one that is in between."

The completely righteous will be recorded and sealed at once for eternal life. The completely wicked will be recorded and doomed at once to Gehinnom, as it says: "And many who sleep in the dust of the earth shall rise up, some to eternal life and some to shame and eternal rejection" [Daniel 12:2]. Those in between will go down to Gehinnom and cry out and rise up, as it says: "And I will bring the third part through the fire and refine them as silver is refined and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name and I will answer them" [Zechariah 13:9]

Jews, Catholics, and Eastern Orthodox have always proclaimed the reality of the final purification for those who need it. It was not until the Protestant Reformers came in the 1500s that any Christians denied the idea of a final purgation before seeing the face of God.

I can't help it every single song just has to go a few bars and I recall every single word. Man if I had just had that ability in math. Or heck any subject in school. I made good grades but once a test was aced the knowledge fled.
Was it a subliminal trick or just the soothing sexy rhythm?

I doubt it. It's evident that everything was composited from Ancient Egyptian, Judaism, Ancient Greek monotheism (see Plato) and Zoroastrianism (with some Babylonian likely thrown in.) This happened because, during the empire of Alexander the Great, all of these traditions overlapped and entered dialogue within a single governing body.

Has anyone ever helped bring someone to Christ by telling someone "You'll burn in hell." ?
Wouldn't it be better if we allowed the testimony of our own life and the lives of others to give them something to think about rather than slam the "burn in hell' door?

I've heard many people on here say that animals don't have souls, that they won't go to heaven, that they shouldn't be regarded on the same level as humans, blah blah blah. But when it comes to the issue of feral children it seems to debunk this whole theory. I mean, there are scientific examples of children abandoned w/ absolutely no human contact only to be raised by wolves, or other animals around them. They LITERALLY act, speak, eat, and interact like animals and NOTHING like humans. So are these children soul-less, are they exempt from Heaven entry, are they not to even be regarded as humans? Just curious what other peoples viewpoints on this issue are.

From my last question I asked about church bill boards. Most of them I see talk about getting your butt to church, getting in heaven, sin ect.
I see that as futile as I have never in my life have been moved by a bill board that have these statements.
However once I saw a church bill board asking for Christmas donations and that compelled me to do something.
So I am wondering why is there so much energy directed towards getting into heaven but so little at making positive change on earth?

I would like to learn German. I've always known a little German but never cared to learn more. But just recently I thought it would be interesting to learn another language. So, I chose German :)

I tried the demo on Rosetta Stone. It really helped but then I looked at the price for the real thing and I think over $200 is way too much for one language. Am I right? Well, anyway...do you know a program that is as easy as Rosetta but a little cheaper?

Thank you!
Cheers

What do you do when your heart is wrenching because of your friend's despair?

Is the reason that the leftist/liberal media supresses images of aborted babies that they know it could set off a firestorm against abortion?

I saw a special on PBS about child labor in America. Large pictures were brought into a congressional hearing about the issue (a new tactic in the early 20th century, though pictures are commonplace now) of kids tied to their machines in factories. This caused an outcry from many lawmakers and soon child labor was outlawed.

In the 60's, people were apathetic about civil rights in the south, but when images of blacks being fire-hosed by white cops hit the living rooms of America, Americans began to become aware of the injustices in the south.

Who could say what the effect of real pictures of murdered innocent babies would have on the abortion debate? I challenge you: Go to Google, and do an image search on "abortion". The gruesome results will rock you back on your heels.

Who thinks this is why mainstream news suppresses these images?

When guests comes in and I have to notify someone that the person or persons are here, what is the best method to convey that? I especially am at a loss when there is more than 1 person.

Is there are, say, 2 guests, should I be saying "lisa and max are here" (or should I be taking their last names?). Or, "Choicepoint (their company) is here". But I cannot annouce their company if, say, they are all from 2 different companies. And if I just say "your guests are here", it sounds pretty vague.

If you were the boss expecting guests, what would you like to hear from me?

I am at a loss for correct words.

Think about this: A Christian believes in God and follows His truths, but then dies and God never comes because He didn't exist. So the Christian is in the ground rotting forever. But an athiest believes God doesn't exist, and then God comes. Then the athiest would pretty much be screwed, right?Which would be better? Wouldn't it be better to believe than to not?

Because doing something because you think you are being rewarded is the same as doing bad, because you are being decietful
I was then told that you need to except Jesus bluh bluh bluh, and that still didnt answer the question.
Even if you accept Jesus as your savior, and you do good works, you are still doing them to get into heaven

I was wondering what the Intelligent Design idea says in regards to the appendix?

If we were designed and created by an Intelligent being then what purpose does the appendix serve?

Also if we were designed then why does a human embryo develop a yolk sac even though it remains empty as it gains nourishment from the mother's body?

I am researching the alternate ideas and am curious
