Actually, the canon of catholic belief/law is much newer, dating from between 600 and 800 ad. The Word of God is the Truth, and the incarnate (spoken) Word of God is Jesus, His Christ. No myth there....

You know, at the risk of a million thumbs down, I tend to believe that there is some truth in everything. Some beliefs have more truth than others, but there is usually still at least some truth. So I would say there is probably something true to mythology, though I think the stories have been greatly changed and exagerated.

~~~ m.a. ,,, If you really are serious then take it from this ex-catholic and start reading from the late Prof. Joseph Campbell and his lifetime of work on ALL Mythologies. You will save yourself hours upon hours of research and reading time by beginning with The Foremost Authority on the subject. Just remember that because of no record keeping devices during most of History required that Information be "saved" in Stories,,, or Allegories. Characters and events within these Allegories are also Symbolic or Metaphorical,,, for instance compare the character of "Saoshyant" in the religion called Zoroastrianism, which predates christianity by hundreds of years, with the "Jesus" of christianity, "Krishna" of hinduism and "Buddha" of buddhism. History is full of "messiahs and virgin births". ALL of these stories are "Higher Teachings" to be used as Models for enhancing Soul Growth by living life "properly". The Astrologies from many cultures is a perfect Living Example of the Iconography of The Stars. Surprises, sometimes called "Lifting the Veils of Ignorance", will greet you in this journey,,,, ~~ Namaste`
the only mythology that comes to my mind, are the Greek, roman and the Germanic.there is always a kernel of truth in them, that's what makes it so mysteriously.on the other hand, the church story's are recorded in written.
By reflect do you mean preflect, since the myth came before.
Myths are probably based on fact. Almost all ancient monsters have been accounted for in one way or another. In England they used to think Unicorns were real and Lions were myths.
Truth isn't something you can prove.
Mythology has been around a hell of a lot longer than 5,000 years, try the begining of time. Read a book.
Mythology is mostly stories, some myths may have a grain of truth or may express a good point.
All religions are mythology.
I agree with Gumby. All societies developed some method of sharing and evangelizing truth and morality. Are Aesops fables true? No, but they do indicate some true principles. Is Buddism the one true religion? I don't beleive so, but my life has been enriched by understanding some of its true principles, so who am I to cry heresy and condem to Hell? Everyone is seeking some truth, and when we find it we love to share it.
By definition,mythology is not true.
Whether Catholic beliefs are true is a matter of opinion,I don't
think they are.
Jesus Christ states, I AM the Way, The Truth, and The Life,
no one comes to the Father except through ME. Mythology
is actually that myths and the RCC is based on myths and legends. The only truth in the RCC church is the apostle's
creed which contains the gospel.
