I was wondering what the Intelligent Design idea says in regards to the appendix?
If we were designed and created by an Intelligent being then what purpose does the appendix serve?
Also if we were designed then why does a human embryo develop a yolk sac even though it remains empty as it gains nourishment from the mother's body?
I am researching the alternate ideas and am curious

The yolk sac makes the 1st blood? Well in mice but I have not been able to find one certified biological source to say the same for humans....the most I was ever able to find was that it screened the blood from umbilical to the heart

Please disregard the above statement....I am re-reading my sources and I think I did find where it says it carries blood and is where the embryo's 1st blood cells are made....I didn't know that...cool!

the appendix is believed to have been used in another time to digest foods we dont eat now. either that or its there for the purpose of bursting and getting kids out of school. so thank the lord for that.
as for the other question......... check this link

Intelligent design is not science and does not employ the scientific method. It simply asserts biblical dogma and tries to impose it on the American Public School system.
Creationism in disguise.
I have never heard of a placental mammal developing a "Yolk Sac". There is an extra-embryonic membrane that is the precursor to the placenta and the umbilical chord.
The appendix IS, in fact, (not merely thought to be) a vestigial cecum. These are the outcroppings of the large intestine that are responsible for the bacterial processes of breaking down cellulose in plant material. Many other animals use this. Humans do not any longer do so. This is an observed fact, not conjecture.

They usually say the appendix holds good bacteria, and has other health benefits.
Of course they generally don't realize the appendix has a real use in other animals, and that people would be healthier and better off if they were born without it (as it gets infected & sometimes cancerous).
The other problem with the good-bacteria theory, is that the appendix comes at nearly the end of the digestive tract. The good bacteria would come into play after a flushing has occurred (diarrhea), and then the good bacteria would proliferate from the appendix. If a god had designed the system, he would have placed the appendix farther up the digestive tract so the bacteria could be spread better (as things generally go in only one direction in the intestines).

Scientist still are not sure the function of the appendix. It was once thought to be vestigial, but no longer is. The bottom line of this so far is that just because something is not understood does not make it useless.
Yolk sac.....hmmmm I wonder why it would be called a yolk sac. Therein may 'lie' the problem-nomenclature!

All organs were created in us for a purpose and function. We can function fine without many organs or parts of the body. Take a look at how many people function fine without legs, arms, etc.
I recently read a story on new studies done at Duke on the purpose of the appendix. And, since you seem to believe the theory of evolution...you shouldn't have any problem believing the theory presented in this study.

If we are all but nothing made up of only physical materials, why do you feel so strongly? Because ppl havent come up with the complete explanation for the rationale for some purpotedly vestigeal structure purpose, does that mean God does not exist? And anybody who say 100% that non coding DNA is "vestigeal" is lying or ignorant.

Most would have a lame answer like it was useful until Eve got us kicked out of Eden. You should try asking that question to the Kansas School Board.

Creationists will say that vestigial features are a result of Adam & Eve being kicked out of Eden. Adam & Eve were perfect and after they were kicked out of Eden they became imperfect, therefore they received vestigial features.
Basically creationists don't know what to say.

I don't support ID, but a parallel argument could be made for evolution. In other words: it served a temporary need during the (facilitated) evolutionary process.

The appendix fights diseases. The "yolk sac" is not a yolk sac at all, but its true function is to produce the first blood cells.
