Because doing something because you think you are being rewarded is the same as doing bad, because you are being decietful
I was then told that you need to except Jesus bluh bluh bluh, and that still didnt answer the question.
Even if you accept Jesus as your savior, and you do good works, you are still doing them to get into heaven

ok so here's how i understand it

first of all, from a christian standpoint, to get into heaven all you have to do is except Jesus. Acts of good are not going to be "tickets into heaven"

however, christians will say that when you accept christ, you become changed. You WANT to do good, behave well, etc. So maybe that's what you're talking about.

I am a christian, but I consider myself more Faithful than "Religious" - I don't go to church, get preachy, etc. I do understand the concept of wanting to do good and be good.

What I don't like is people who try to push their beliefs on others. That, I would agree with you, isn't a godly act. Thou shal not judge after all. Let him judge.

The point that clearly you are having trouble understanding, is that "good" works have NOTHING to do with salvation. There isn't some list Jesus keeps track of, listing all the positive things we have done in our lives. Salvation literally means we are being "saved" from our sin. It is a free gift of grace, not some reward or trophy, and it is available to everyone.

You accept Jesus to get in heaven, you do good works to be obediant to God's calling on your life. As a christian you can still do bad things and be deceitful, but you will be forgiven by the blodd of Jesus. I will pray for you.

Is it inconceivable that people in general try to be good? Godly or not, if there is a heaven, no one knows who is invited just quite yet.

You do good works because you understand the heart of Jesus... and like him, you want to help the sick... you want to help the poor... you want the weak to rise up and be strong... not everyone does good deeds just because they want God to see...

Well, there are people who are genuinely doing things because they want to, they are good-natured people. But, either way, God knows your heart. Hypocrites will be judged fairly.
