While I do not agree that women should be forced to do anything, Are the cultures that only allow women to only show their hands and other things like that the ones that know a womens worth the most? Is it because they know the power that women have the reason they make them hide themselves?

Just seeing what if any correlations there are. I know it's a small sample! And if you're not in a profession yet, put down what you hope to do. And homemaking definitely counts!

I think some of them are very handsome, have decent characters and overall have a good sense of the world. But they always want to date other girls and never marry them. Why? I am not able to understand why they always change their mind and close up their mentality when it comes to love and care....

this happened to a few friends of mine and I am always confused as to why they are so short term minded....

No offense to anyone, just wanna know why they do this.

Do you use it in a way of exclaimation? I used to. After I drifted away from God and then came back, I spent alot of time in the Bible. I looked at the ten commandments and found that I didn't obey alot of them. One thing I realized is that saying, "Oh my God" is using the Lords name in vain. I prayed and prayed that God would help me to not say it anymore. It took alot of work, but not the phrase rarely comes out of my mouth. I have heard, "oh my word" and things like that, but I've learned to replace it with, "oh my goodness".
Are there any other Christians out there who have battled this? Do you think that this is taking the Lord's name in vain? Have you learned to not say it? Do you think it doesn't matter?

The idea that unbaptized babies was accepted and taught by the Catholic church for centuries. Yes there was some debate but it was accepted by most Catholics and taught as the truth. Then one day the pope says we don't think babies actually go to limbo. He just basically did a 180 on church teachings. Because the pope said it, it was accepted. So I have to wonder how far this goes. What if the pope came out tomorrow and said purgatory no longer exists. Would Catholics then start to condemn the idea of purgatory? What if he declared the koran to be inspired of God. Would Catholics then defend it? How far does the acceptance of what the pope says go? Don't tell me things like this would never happen. Many people would have said the same about limbo.

Most atheists answer "for lack of evidence to the contrary" but that's not why I'm an atheist... which I can only explain by way of a parable.

If I was walking through the forest and saw a tree lieing on the ground and wondered why. I might think that lighting hit it. Or I might think that termites ate away at the roots and it fell. Or I might think it died and gravity pulled it down. Or I might think a meteor hit it (like the forest in Russia). Or I might think that a passing mudslide made it fall. Or I might think that a large animal accidently hit up against it causing it to topple. Or I might think that the owner of the land cut it down - hoping to make a log cabin out of it one day - and gave up. Or I might think some other natural cause made the tree fall but I can't think what it might be. But not for a moment would it ever cross my mind to think it is on the ground because an invisible, all powerful, diety laid it there... and the same goes for every event in history.

Religious Person: The lord sure made those mountains pretty!

Atheist: No, actually glaciers made them. [northern Illinois]

RP: Well, god made the glaciers.

A: No, extreme amounts of compacted snow did.

RP: Well, god caused the snow.

A: Not really, snow is cause by the drop in atmospheric temperature.

RP: And god made the temperature drop!

A: No really. The Earth's unusual, elliptical orbit caused the earth to move farther from the sun, causing the temperature drop.

RP: Well, you know, god moved the earth!

A: Actually not. The Earth moves in relationship to the sun's gravitational effect as it moves through space.

etc., etc., etc.....

Notice the religious person changed their story 4 times and the atheist did not change the story even once. Who will YOU trust?
Me? I'll take the science any day.
(This is an abriviated conversation that I heard with my own ears!)

My husband's mother's side of the family are JW. His uncle, who went to "hall" (thier church) 3 times a week just committed a gruesome suicide. I was wondering if his "hall" and family would think he is in hell (do they believe in hell?) or he wont' get into Heaven? How will being JW color thier reactions?

My dads only sibling, my uncle, is a catholic priest. My brothers and I were raised in the catholic church and attended catholic school. My parents divorced in 1980 at which point we went to public school and no church at all. I've struggled in this life; divorces, one child (now 19), suicide attempt, depression, and so on (although no drug or alcohol abuse).
I'm 40 now and want my church back but not only has the church excommunicated me (because of divorce) but my uncle couldn't care less what I do. Catholocism is all I know.
I do not understand why Catholics are so judgemental. Aren't we all sinners? What? Are my sins worse than theirs? It appears that catholics kick you when you're down, take your God from you when you need him the most. I don't get it.

Well I know its her house n stuff but I'm not a religious person. My beliefs are more 'New Age' and although my mum does not mind this and believes in a lot of it herself, she still carries out religious rituals. She does this crap in my room where all the statues are kept. She's really self contradictory- on the one hand she says that we should believe in ourselves, not depend on something external, but then she goes and carries out religious practices. Its really annoying....what can I say to her? I'm 16 btw.
