It's not a sin, but it's incorrect. People who use the word "greetings" are usually the ones *designing* the robots -- that's why robots use that word too.
And people with astonishingly high dungeons and dragons scores.

I have never heard any one say greetings when they answer the phone. It's always been hello. Unless you have just encountered and alien being from outer space, Then Greeting would be OK.
