Religious Person: The lord sure made those mountains pretty!
Atheist: No, actually glaciers made them. [northern Illinois]
RP: Well, god made the glaciers.
A: No, extreme amounts of compacted snow did.
RP: Well, god caused the snow.
A: Not really, snow is cause by the drop in atmospheric temperature.
RP: And god made the temperature drop!
A: No really. The Earth's unusual, elliptical orbit caused the earth to move farther from the sun, causing the temperature drop.
RP: Well, you know, god moved the earth!
A: Actually not. The Earth moves in relationship to the sun's gravitational effect as it moves through space.
etc., etc., etc.....
Notice the religious person changed their story 4 times and the atheist did not change the story even once. Who will YOU trust?
Me? I'll take the science any day.

I thought that mountains were created by plate tectonics, not glaciers.
Anyhow, this discussion is basically an illustration of the "god of the gaps" principle. The Christians just try to fill in anything they can't figure out with "God did it".
Science keeps filling in the gaps with real explanations. So the gaps are getting smaller and fewer and the Christian god gets squeezed out more and more.
However, Christians seem to think that they are still right because they are sure that there will always be some gaps somewhere that their god can sit in.
They just don't seem to get the idea that saying "God did it" is not a real explanation. Its just an excuse used by people too lazy or too stupid to look for a real reason.
Even worse, they are too self-centered and arrogant to even realize that assuming "God did it" doesn't necessarily mean that you are assuming that THEIR god did it. It could have been any one of an infinite number of possible gods. Thus, even if something actually was done by a god, the odds of it being THEIR god are effectively zero.

I actually see inconsistencies with the other view: If it's really a mountain, this conversation was All wrong. Glaciers do not create mountains. When a glacier causes a structure to form, there is a U-shape due to the glacier running through. If a glacier were to form it, it would be a plateau, and not a mountain. The Catskills are believed to be mountains but they are actually a plateau. The tectonic movement of the earth results in compaction & that aids the development of both mountains and plateaus. Erosion causes structures to change, making the Catskills look like mountains though they are not.
The Christian never said that what the atheist said about nature was wrong. The Christian was just saying that God is the cause of all of these things. God doesn't go and sprinkle snow on us, but God is in control.

Azure Z kept talking about filling in the gap and people being too lazy or stupid to look for a real reason and thus, just saying "God did it." However, I think that it's stupid to always search for reasons and explanations, and that is the one thing that is wrong with science, the fact that you spend forever just wondering why and just asking questions and you never just live. God didn't create us for that. Also, Christians know that there is only one God. Why would there be more than one anyway, when the real one is who He is - all great and all good?
People are wrong when they assume that God doesn't love someone when they are not following His will for them, I know that God is love and does love us NO MATTER WHAT, so much that He sent Jesus to die for our sins.

Jews, Christians, Muslims all have their wacko's & different sects - although they fall under the same belief they do not have the same basic beliefs or there wouldn't be baptist, methodist & lutherans & so on - Then again Fundamentalist believe that if you aren't born again, you are still going to hell whether you are christian or not... yet they will tell you that God gives unconditional love, but being saved to them is not a condition - LOL
As a believer in God, I truly believe he is up there saying "I know that's what I said, but That's NOT what I MEANT!!!!"

Your mind is not only closed, for some reason you are so angry you waste your life typing questions like this that lash out at people you don't even know.
Did your mother force you to go to church when you were a child, and now you're just angry at anyone who calls themselves Christians?
You are so close-minded, you'll see what you want to see, and hear what you want to hear -- all filtered through a bias of anger.
I've 'wasted' these seconds of my life, because you need to know that no matter how angry you get, God still loves you.

God did make all that.He made the mountains the sky the universe etc...I would trust God.Cause u people believe u came from a monkey I believe a great and glorious God made me.

the christian did not change his story either, note that God is the root cause of all things, I never said God made me sneeze. But God is the creator who designed my body to sneeze as well as the creator who made the pollon which I breathed in which made me sneeze
what a useless argument.
FYI Christians have taken science for the last few millenia, who the hell do you think it was that built the universities?
