They obviously respect you enough to invite you to both happenings so definetely cordially respond with your regrets, you may send a card with a check in it with an appropriate amount wishing both the very best or purchase a gift.

No. You are never obligated to purchase a gift for anyone, even if you do attend the event. Your presence, if invited, should be gift enough.

If you are close to them and want to purchase a gift, please feel free to do so. Sending a card wishing them well would also be a nice gesture.

You don't have to, but you know you have up to a year to send a wedding gift. At least that's what I've been told.

I usually just pick something off their registry that's not too expensive and have it sent to their home.

Yes, a simple gift to show you care would be nice. Perhaps something as simple as a set of picture frames would be a great gift!

Why not going? Well, just get a nice card and tell them you're sorry but will get to see them once they're back from honeymoon and you would like to invite/join them for breakfast one day. Sounds fair enough?

Yes, absolutely. The question is on Etiquette. Ettiquette says yes.

No, but it is nice to send a card or a gift (if you can afford it). See Miss Manners or Emily Post if you need confirmation of this.

I would not expect you to give a gift if you don't go to the reception. It's your choice.

It would be very nice of you - unless you have a reason for not wanting to send a gift.
