I am invited to a 60th birthday party of someone I am very close with. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with terminal, non-operable cancer, and probably has 2 months left, if that. Her family was planning a surprise 60th birthday party for her, and they are still having the party. Can anybody suggest any gift ideas?

I don't believe there is a purgatory but let's say that I'm wrong and there really is a purgatory. What if you go there and after a while people forget about you and stop praying for you? Wouldn't you rather go strait to Heaven? Wouldn't it be better to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior and know for sure that you're going to Heaven?

Really! This can be argued either way. As christians, Jesus died for our sins so we didn't have to be burning in hell! And I can' speak for everyone, but I'm sure the atheists feel like they are happier without the complications of religion!
So to say life isn't about happiness is crazy! Am I supposed to be ruled by fear or indifference? Why on earth would you choose a belief system if it didn't make you happy or fulfilled? Isn't that the point?

We are here to take care of one another. God is Love and kind. If God lives within us, then we should be Loving and kind too right? God provides, we provide, God forgives, we forgive, God dont hate people, we dont hate people. If God Love, then we Love.
We are to strive to be like God. So when people see those who believes in God.People see that God lives within (our) hearts. The only thing we are not suppose to be is the Judge.

How can a person be so smart and so clueless at the same time – simultaneously so right and so wrong?
It is not just WHAT we believe that matters, but HOW we live those beliefs and how we communicate them to the people around us.
How do you deal with a person who is close to you and really deep down loves the Lord, but at the same time, is, for a lack of a better word, stuck up or a know it all I'm better than you attitude?

Why would a god allow murderers and sex offenders to attack young children who haven't even developed a coherent world view? Can anyone give me an answer to this that is at all common-sensical? What is god's motivation? Reading the papers makes me sick sometime. An omniscient being is okay with this?!

why dont we stop arguing about whether god exists or not, but rather if the god described in the bible matches with the one who's supposed to be loving, and forgiving and whatnot? I think the real reason some of us dont want to worship isnt so much as to whether we believe or not, but rather if he is deserving of it. I mean think about it
1)he forced his son to sacrifice himself(HIS OWN SON!!!)
2)he killed several people and innocent animals in the great flood(but wait, wasnt one of the commandments thou shall not
kill?)
3)he tried to keep adam and eve ignorant
and he punished them for something that wasnt their fault. How were they supposed to know it was wrong to disobey god before eating from the tree and learning the difference between right and wrong?
4)he sends you to hell for not believing. so you could be a perfectly nice person who means no harm, but because you dont believe in him and considering there is no proof then you go to hell
