This life we're living now, is not the "real life" that Jehovah had in mind for us.
We were not meant to become sick, grow old and die.
Our lives were not meant to be plagued with troubles.
The "real life" is very appealing as these things we experience now, will never be again. That's more than enough for me to look forward to.

Do you not know the meaning to eternal life? Eternal as in forever; no limits to life; no more death; living with other of same minds and in spiritual joy under God's presence it is not meaningless. You recall how heaven is described in the Bible being that you were a believer for many years or did you simply block it out to fill your head with new ideas of what heaven is not? There other option such eternal damnation as in the Lake of Fire which was created for the devil and his followers and Yes God did create it but it was created for the devil the father of lies whom happens to be doing a very good job at deceiving people that he does not exist. Simple choice it is your choice yes.

Eternal life with the Lord and never hurting, crying in pain or hunger, everything more beautiful than you could ever imagine, and living with others that have the same bliss. Why wouldn't you want to be a part of that? The alternative is what doesn't sound very appealing.

This probably will make no sense, but anyway, here we go...
I think people have a fear of non-existence. It's just a disturbing thought for some people to think that one day - poof! You're nothing.
I compare it with other disturbing realizations--you know how when you go to bed at night, and close your eyes and fall asleep? Well, have you ever thought about it; that even though your eyelids are shut, your eyeballs are always alert; always looking at something even if you're "resting".
Some people view the essence of human life (soul, spirit, aura--whatever you wanna call it) as the ever-seeing eyeball. It is always fully conscious. It's impossible to imagine it not sensing existence; or in this case, not existing at all. The concept of non-existence is hard to understand. Even I find it disturbing and impossible.
I feel that I've existed for eons.

because people are afraid of the unknown. and because they are human, therefore they have failings, and regrets. if life goes on for all eternity, you don't have to put as much effort into making your life-- and other's lives-- the best that it can be. you can skate along, knowing this is kind of boring, but things someday will get a whole lot better. you don't have to spend too much time worrying about what you do and how you affect people in the here and now if this is just a tiny fragment of what will be your godawfullylong life.
it's much harder to make every moment count. but you feel so much more alive when you do. ;)

Point of order....Everyone will live forever...one way or the other. The appeal of living forever with God should be obvious. Go outside and look at the stars. Are you curious about the universe and its awesomeness.
If you can look at the stars and thumb your nose at infinity and truly say that you care not to know anything then so be it.
The paradox is that most folk who claim to be atheists or who say that they don't care spend a lot of time trying to understand the creation and do not even consider the awesomeness of the Creator.
How narrow is this approach ?.....it is truly amazing to me.

Well, oblivion is hardly an attractive prospect,is it? Just because you don't believe in it doesn't mean you - or anyone - should have any trouble understanding the appeal of an idea like personal immortality. I can't believe you wouldn't comprehend why people would find the notion more attractive than annihilation.

It might be appealing for the person living it. It might not be so for the younger generation, who have trouble with people voicing 40-year old opinions, never mind 400-year-old ones.

I would think eternal life wouldn't be so fun anymore, once all other life goes extinct and the oceans boil away and the sun convulses and dies and all the stars in the universe burn out and it's just one unimaginably vast, dark, cold, utterly lonely dead universe.
