why dont we stop arguing about whether god exists or not, but rather if the god described in the bible matches with the one who's supposed to be loving, and forgiving and whatnot? I think the real reason some of us dont want to worship isnt so much as to whether we believe or not, but rather if he is deserving of it. I mean think about it

1)he forced his son to sacrifice himself(HIS OWN SON!!!)
2)he killed several people and innocent animals in the great flood(but wait, wasnt one of the commandments thou shall not
kill?)
3)he tried to keep adam and eve ignorant
and he punished them for something that wasnt their fault. How were they supposed to know it was wrong to disobey god before eating from the tree and learning the difference between right and wrong?
4)he sends you to hell for not believing. so you could be a perfectly nice person who means no harm, but because you dont believe in him and considering there is no proof then you go to hell

5)if you worship a false god then you go to hell. and how is the christian god any less false or any more true than the other gods that are worshipped? what makes him more real and the others fake? so all we have to go on is a book which not only claims is the right one, just like every other religious book, but there are so many different versions of it, and we have to interpret it!!

please I would love to know why its okay for god to kill, how we are supposed to know he's the right one, and if any of you would honestly force your children to spread the word of god alone without any protection or supervision on them.

oh and by the way I am not on satans side. thats a fallacy that if youre not with god that youre with satan. take an english 1c class or a speech class and you'll see that this is a fallacy where youre with either one or the other.

What can I say except that you are wrong and have believed God's enemy rather than the testimony of His own Son?
If you prefer Satan you are free to spend eternity with him.

OK

He let's you write this post and still waits for you to seek Him and still desires that you do not perish. He lives and breathes and moves through you whether you believe it or not and He is withholding His judgement to give you a chance.

Now, under your definition the Christian God is a despicable God, so let's move on. Please tell me why ANY god would allow all of the crap to occur that we have to put up with on this planet. By your judgement system the logical conclusion is that all gods will eventually be labeled as scum.

To prove it answer this question....If you created this planet and mankind would you allow wars and murder and rape and Katrine etc etc.?

So now that we have established that you are morally superior to any and/or all gods, let's back up and start over.

Man screwed this world up. God is trying to get us out of the mess. he says we have no way out on our own because we are part of the problem not the solution. So He made a Way.

Good luck finding Him.

1) read about what Jesus's sacrifice did
2)flood was before the commandments, and, after the flood, God pleged to never do such a thing again
3)he said dan't eat from the tree, and they wouldnt have if not for the snake
4)-5)that is the wrathful old testament god. god sort of "changes" in the new testament when he becomes more of the "loving" god. and, you are not sent to hell if you lead a virtuous life

Well, God doesn't have to belong to the Bible. How do you know that the men who wrote the Bible really knew anything about God?

A lot of people stop believing in the concept of a god just because they don't believe in the Bible's concept of it.

Because God either does or does not exist. If God does exist, then and only then move on to your second question, If God does not exist, there is no reason to waste time with your second question as many more pertinent questions will prioritize themselves ahead. It's a matter of ordering your operations, so please excuse my dear aunt sally.

You should stop reading select internet sites and just read the Bible. The Bible does not lie; it just tells you the TRUTH which you have no reality of.

6) As Jesus died on the cross he screams: "Forgive them, father! They know not what they do." This implies the people who killed him commited a sin against God. Since Jesus "knew" he was going to be killed and went to Jeruselum anyways, he caused people to sin against god.

Those are all excellent points--ones I'd like to point out to Christians if they could just get past their utterly inane INSISTENCE that God is real.

If we could get them over that little hump into the realm of just CONSIDERING other possibilities, then I'd like to spring this stuff on them. But as it is most of them won't even hear it. They stick their fingers in their ears and sing LA LA LA LA...

There are a lot of things to address here. I'm not able to address them all, nor do it thoroughly but I'll try my best.

1) Yes, God "killed" his own son, in a way. But also know that God raised him up from death. Also know that it wasn't God who killed Jesus just for kicks, but "he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5). Jesus died on the cross because of our sin and because of a love for us, in wanting us to be brought into an eternal fellowship with him. Jesus though, also did it willingly. He wanted to do it. Hebrews 12:2 says, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." It was for the joy set before him that he endured the cross. What joy do you think that he meant? The joy was fellowship with us. It was all for paying the cost of sin, sin against a holy and just God. God who must punish sin in order for us to be allowed into his presence, which is the best gift that God can ever give because God is supreme and there is no other gift better than knowing God. Paul counts everything as lost to the surpassing joy of knowing Christ our Lord. So in short, 1), it was our sin that held him on the cross, the real reason why he died. 2) he did it lovingly and willingly. 3) and he did it for you and me.

2) God isn't only a loving and peaceful God. Being God means that he is the Holy, and Only Good Judge. He is the only one worthy of judging the world. The flood was the way that God choose to judge the world. Remember that we are a fallen race. We have sinned against God. They were no different then. Genesis 2:5-6 says, "The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain." The penalty for sinning against a Holy God is death and separation from God - which is the essence of hell. It's only by sheer grace and mercy that God allows us to live these 70 + years on earth (on avg.). So God, being a just judge and Creator over all has all fairness to do what he will. Because of our sin, he punished us. In the end, we all deserve so much worse than what we have, no matter how bad life is now, every breathe is an evidence of God's patience and grace.

3) It isn't that he tried to keep Adam and Eve ignorant. Adam and Eve were not at a place where they were able to know about sin and not sin. They did not have that self control. And it was not even knowledge that counted as the first sin, it was the act of distrusting God and pridefully assuming that Adam knew what was best for them. It was this 'assuming the role of god of their lives' which was the first sin. It wasn't about ignorance. In due time, God would have revealed to them everything and anything, first and foremost, starting with knowledge about Himself. God wanted a people to be a holy nation, a holy people, not corrupted. Would you rather have your daughter or your future daughter unaware of all the bad things in the world if that meant keeping intact her innocence and purity? Or would you rather have her tainted by the world's impurity and her innocence corrupted? They willingly choose not to trust God once Satan tempted them. God told them not to do something and they did it. They knew that it was wrong to disobey God. You don't have to know that murder is wrong in order to murder, or lie, or steal.

4) God doesn't send you to hell simply for not believing in him. There are plenty of people that believe in God's existence. It wasn't ever about that. Matthew 7:21-23 says, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me..." It's about having faith in the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, for the forgiveness for sin, for the atonement of sin. If you do not have a saving faith in this, then you must be punished for the sin that you have committed. There exist no perfectly nice person. We all have fallen short of perfection. Hasn't everyone told at least one lie? or acted pridefully in their lives? Stolen, cursed, envied, hated, lusted, boasted in themselves, any of this? It takes only one sin against a Holy God. One sin can condemn a man for eternity, not because of the one sin, but because God is infinitely Holy, so the punishment must be infinitely great.

And there is much proof everywhere. Nature points to the fact that there is a creator. We who are made in God's image point that there is a creator and he is grand. Romans 1 says that no man is without excuse because God has revealed simple things about Himself through nature and through the earth. So even if you have not heard the gospel preached, you are without excuse.

So what about you? You've heard the gospel. If not before, you've heard it at least twice in this page. The letter of the gospel is addressed to you, now if you reject it after reading it, then are you not without excuse?

Thanks for reading, and thanks for those questions. They gave me a good time revisiting the gospel and just how beautiful they are.
