Without a personal Creator-God, how are you anything other than the coincidental, purposeless miscarriage of nature, spinning round and round on a lonely planet in the blackness of space for just a little while before you and all memory of your futile, pointless, meaningless life finally blinks out forever in the endless darkness?

If morality is only a relative social construct, on what basis could or should anyone ever move to interfere with cultures that practice apartheid, female circumcision, cannibalism, or ethnic cleansing?

Why is it ok for others to place what they believe on us or try and make us accept what they believe but its wrong for us to persuade others to accept what we believe?

Why does research, discovery, diplomacy, art, music, sacrifice, compassion, feelings of love, or affectionate and caring relationships mean anything if it all ultimately comes to naught anyway?

I'm going to visit my friend from work who is going to show me how to cook some real Indian food - her and her husband are both from India. I would like to take a gift - usually in this situation I would take some wine/beers/flowers.
What would be suitable? I don't know if she/her husband drinks or not, and it's a lunchtime.

I'm an atheist. I wish other atheists would stop being so petty.

Stop crying when someone spells atheist wrong. It's really not a big deal. Most of the time I don't even notice they got the "e" and the "i" backwards until some anal nitpicker points it out and starts throwing a tantrum.

Stop making such a big deal about "In God We Trust" being on money. I don't think I've ever met anyone who was converted by reading a dollar bill. It's not important.

What is important is talking about WHY people believe in god, and WHY we don't.

Have our people been raised up with authoritorian ideals? Or are they just a bunch of crooks who want rights for themselves and NOT for others?

Of all of them, I dislike Paul the most. He was a sanctimonious little jerk who couldn't enjoy life himself, so thought he'd do his best to prevent other people from enjoying it.

survive a heart break? My single was "I'm So Lonesome I could Cry" when my very first boyfriend left for Germany with the army in 1968. Now he is a good friend and has been married well over 30 years to a delightful lady. Do you think kids today still do that?

And what makes you qualified to teach anyone about it, especially when it's a pretty well-known fact that people have been trying to figure this out for centuries, millions upon millions upon millions dying with separate ideas?

Any rational person realizes that in order for life to exist how it exists now, it had to evolve from simpler stages, along with the formation of planets, solar systems, etc. So shouldn't it be a rather obvious possibility that the idea of God could simply be just that? An idea, and no one really knows a damn thing about it?

about a year and a half ago my ex and I had broken up, during that seperation I had a casual sex encounter that I feared gave me HIV. My ex and i decided to get back together but i hadnt gotten tested yet and I was so nervous and upset and sad that I might not be able to be with my ex, that I prayed to God that if i had HIV and couldnt be with my ex that I would die. I realized how foolish this was and have sinced begged God for forgiveness for speaking foolish words to him and asking to die. I've repented several times from this, I'm afraid that I may be under a curse because of my hasty words. I've plead the blood of Jesus over any curses that may be on my life, i'm still nervous because my father died of a heart attack last year, I've been having chest pains and other symptoms and have been to the doctor and had many test but they cant find anything wtong with me. I don't want to die young I'm only 23. Does anyone have any advice?
