I wish my fellow Christians would quit attacking others for their beliefs and lifestyles and love them . I wish they would spread the Good Word by actions and their life, not by telling them how they will roast in hell. We don't know who is going to heaven or hell. That's not our job!

Marooned, I always respect your questions and your answers because you are respectful.
I attend an Assembly of God church, although there is a lot of their doctrine I disagree with. The main thing is the teaching that there is a second baptism of the Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in tongues. This doctrine is based on a few verses in the New Testament, mainly the second chapter of Acts. They say it is a gift, but many people pray for years to receive it and some never get it. Others seem to receive it but they act so weird when they say they are in the Spirit, that I question why anyone would want it, and whether the way they behave is indeed Godly. The glossolalia sounds like gibberish to me, and some of it is ugly sounding. I imagine that a heavenly language would be beautiful to the ears, even if it isn't intelligible. Frankly, it's creepy and I think sometimes people do it to show off how "holy" they are. But it makes them look like crazy nuts.
Please do ask me why I believe in God, and if you ask in a respectful way, I'll tell you.

Well the only reason us atheists point out the "e" and "i" mistake is because atheists are proven to be more intelligent :) I don't mind if someone spells it wrong either. I think it's important we try and get the "In God we trust" and "One nation under God" out because it gets brainwashed into little kids when they read it and have to say it in grade school. But hey I respect your opinion. I wish all religious people would lighten up and not act like they are know it all! I wish religious people would stop killing each other in the name of their God! I wish all people, atheist or religious, would be more open-minded! I wish all the religious people would stop knocking on my door with those damn pamphlets!

Another Atheist chiming in....
I wish people of EVERY religion on Y!A would stop painting with such broad brushstrokes and stop trying to demonize everyone else.
I wish everyone would stop attacking one another for their beliefs ...and stop asking one side or the other JUSTIFY their beliefs. Don't ASK questions about someone's opinions or beliefs (or lack of beliefs) and then blast them / mock them / pity them / etc. for stating those opinions / beliefs that you ASKED them to speak about.
We're not looking to score points against the side (no one's keeping score) ... and we're not going to convince any true believers (or non-believers) to change their minds based on a few sentences / paragraphs here on Y!A.
Stop "posing" as someone from one group in order to rile up the other... stop trolling for flame-wars...
What's important isn't so much WHY we believe (or don't believe) what we do... what's important is that we simply know & understand that others have different beliefs than we do... and to accept them regardless (or despite) those beliefs.

I wish some of us wouldn't be so quick to demean another's intelligence. It's one thing to say that someone doesn't have the same knowledge and perspective as you do, but quite another to say that they are dumb or an idiot just for holding a certain belief. Some theists are very intelligent, they just haven't been led to look at what they believe from another perspective.
Edit: I include myself in this group. I'm working on getting better about this.

Constantly preach. I am an Atheist as well, but I am more open minded and tolerant. This allows me to better understand those with opposing view points rather than automatically assume they are wrong.

I am a Christian and honestly speaking I am very disappointed with those preachers that seem to focus more on financial donations than preaching the gospel. They walk around in their Armani suits and drive their BMW's I really would like to see more humble preachers in the world.

I am also an atheist. I wish a few (a very few) would not post purposefully offensive posts, particularly of a sexual nature. Its not funny and it fuels the fire against us.

They try to convince others they are wrong if they don't believe as they do. Why can't they be satisfied with their own beliefs instead of reassuring themselves they are right because of #'s.

I don't know too many people who share the same beliefs like me. I could count them on one hand's fingers. I can't reproach them anything related to their belief or things they do because of it
