I understand your frustration, but America has never been a democracy. It's a republic. So instead of the people voting on every issue, we have representatives doing it for us. Of course most of these representatives, republican and democrat alike, are crooked as hell. Add to that almost all are a part of our inherently flawed 2 party system and things start looking pretty grim.
Yeah, I've got my guns.

They don't know becuase most are brought up in the public school system and they are left with the school system to do all the educating of the child. Even the private schools are really starting to lack.
The school system was put together to help with education not be the sorce and the history books started chaging and the history of the US demeaned along with the bill of rights etc when the teachers association took over in the 60's and made their way into the white house. Prior to that they were always thought of to be the communist party of the US.
Which also explains why the motto went from "Giving a basic education of history, math and science to all.": to "to teach tolerance". Which tolerance should have nothing to do with teaching our children. They need to learn the math, science, history, art, music and how to learn and to think for themselves.

Because it is not taught in schools. Because they do not want you to know. They want Americans to be ignorant of the Bill of Rights and Constitution. How else can they control us?
I actually learned more about the Bill of Rights and constitution
1. helping a friend of mine studying for his American citizenship test than I ever learned in an American high school or college.
2. When I was going to school over overseas when growing up. That was up through 9th grade off and on depending on where Company transferred Dad to.

Why? Good question. Why do so many citizens of this nation only focus on their own interests? Wish I knew. We have always practised this philosophy to some degree. It is a necessary by product of our capitalist beliefs. I think it is completely unfair to blame our system of education. Keep in mind many of the leaders in this new authoritarion movement were educated in private institutions.
We as a nation must get back to the constitution. I fear we will not do so until a leader arises who makes that a focus.

Everyone wants rights for themselves and no one else, that's human nature. It comes from the inborn notion that we can trust ourselves, but everyone else might be a threat, so we should take steps (pass laws) to limit the danger.
But I would bet that most of what you consider ignorance is actually a different interpretation. The constitution and other founding documents of the USA ar not as unambigous as some people seem to think. Take the whole "right to bear arms" issue. Is the right invalid because the amendment specifies a reason that is now obsolete (miitias)? And that's pretty much the most straightforward of the legal and ideological questions.

the main efficient attempt of Republican propaganda on the grounds that Reagan has been its insitence that democracy and capitlism are actual synonyms. As training has been devalued, and public information censored via a similar cabal, it has grow to be greater in all probability that individuals is purely no longer waiting to benefit that it is actual a calculated lie.

I don't know.
Frankly, we need to seriously rethink the idea of secession.
If the "red states" and their leader have problems with states that uphold the bill of rights, we should let them go.
You have no idea how much it hurts to say that, especially knowing NE and West Coast taxes keep the Bible belt alive.
