If you are in an area where there are racial tensions, (specifically the Southern United States), and you are an African American, I would suspect the Ku Klux Klan, or just a bunch of drunk rednecks trying to act tough.

I don't know but in yesterday's paper from my town was an article about someone getting charged with cross burning apparently he faces up to 10 years in prison.

There's a rumor that the KKK are actually satan worshippers, which is why they burn crosses. They hate minorities, Jews, northerners, and anybody who isn't exactly like they are - bleach-white, ignorant and bigoted.
