I have been told numerous times by LDS missionaries and even a stake president that Mormons do not now, and never have, pray to the Son (who they say is Jehovah), but only to the Father!

And yet in their "scriptures" (Doctrine & Covenants 109), Joseph Smith is recorded as saying a public prayer which I see as praying to Jehovah (who is now said by the Church to be Jesus).

In that prayer, he said, "And now, Holy Father, we ask you to assist us" and "We ask thee, Holy Father, to confound, and astonish ... those who have spread lying reports ... against thy servant or servants".

Further on he said, "42. But deliver thou, O Jehovah, we beseech thee, thy servants from their hands".

I cannot see this as anything but a prayer to Jehovah (who the modern Church says is the Son)! There are other instances of this in this prayer/scripture.

Can anyone see another explanation of these facts?

first off don't get offended this question is for the racist white people that think they are superior god only knows the hell why but they seem to be proud of the fact that they so-called rule the world and didn't do anything to earn anything they have today they stole this land and murdered people enslaved people to get the **** they have today and some of them have the audacity to look their noses down at others as if they are better huh?if you call stealing murdering and being violent period "superior"then you are sadly mistaken but you know what, "what goes around, comes around" and i hope obama wins!LOL!

Not me. Banning religions is too dogmatic. I would like think that atheism encourages free thought and freedom of choice.

You?

I saw a thing on Court TV about a muslim father killing his teenage daughter with a knife while the mother held her down. Presumably she had "disobeyed" them by working an after school job & having a BF they didn't like. I am not usually one to bash any1's religion but that is SICK. I am so glad the father died from diabetes so his execution wouldn't be overturned like the mothers' was. She's just as resposible.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

This is a spinoff to one of my earlier questions, so I hope the same and other people will respond.

DNA sequencing will indicate parental DNA combinations of an individual. If the SoT contained only one sequence (Mary's), then immaculate conception is scientifically proven. In fact, we need not even know Mary's DNA to compare it to. All we need to know is if the DNA has only one parent, proving Roman Catholicism doctrine. If there are two parents, then that proves Protestants correct.

Perhaps the DNA profile is something we have never even seen as scientists, if it is indeed miraculous. Perhaps there would be much to be learned from its structure.

What stops this from being done? Or has this never been considered? Could it be that the destruction of one (or two) religious sects is too great of an impact on society to proceed with such an investigation?

Comments, both positive and negative are welcome.

According to Western religions, God is omnipotent. So why would he take time to create an entire universe just to populate earth, and then have all the inhabitants play in a big game where you have to guess which religion and sect to join, which rites to perform, make sure you interpet his teachings in the correct manner, and try to figure out how to behave well. Then, at the end of the earth, he would have to go through everyone's life, and figure out whether or not they deserve to go to heaven. It all seems like one big dumb game that an omniscient being (God) would be far too smart to play.

I propose this new term to be used:

Jesus Huffers - a term used to describe the people that can't identify with reality due to the fact that they get stoned on the fumes that they huff from their bibles.

He smokes non stop about 50 a day,and my lungs HURT if I walk out of my bedroom. Im staying in my room with the window OPEN all the time. How can I approach this subject, smokers are selfish idiots, who get so defenseless if you question their obsession with killing themselves and pulling everyone down with them.

And what can I do to stop this vile stench permeating my innocent nostrils and asphyxiating me? I am moving out when the lease is up as I also hate his guts.

I have NEVER heard a happy ending cult story. Manson, Jonestown, Branch Davidians, Heaven's Gate, & even the polygamous cults like the FLDS were/are very dangerous & destructive. Does the so-called prophet or leader just trick or brainwash the weak-minded?

Even though Hades (or Sheol) and Gehenna are all translated Hell, they both have different meanings. Hades/Sheol isn't a place just for the wicked, its a placed where people are preserved with a hope of the resurrection.

Jesus was sent to Hades and waited for his resurrection.

Acts 2:25-27
"For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: Because thou wilt not LEAVE MY SOUL UNTO HADES, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

Job expected to goto Sheol and be preserved until his resurrection.

Job 14:13-14 "Oh that thou wouldest hide me in SHEOL, That thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, That thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and REMEMBER ME! If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my warfare would I wait, TILL MY RELEASE SHOULD COME."
